What you will find in the manual vaporizers category

A manual vaporizer has no batteries or electronics. It derives heat from an external source, either from a torch or an induction heater, so it does not require charging and there is nothing to discharge.

This is a separate branch of vaporization equipment, run alongside battery-operated devices. It operates under its own rules, and it is these rules, not the parameters in the table, that determine whether such equipment suits you.

How a manual vaporizer works

The principle is simple. You fill the chamber with herb, heat the heating element from the outside, and inhale when the device reaches the working temperature.

The readiness moment is not shown on a display. In devices with a cap, the signal is a click that can be heard after a few seconds of heating; a second click when cooling down means that it can be reheated.

The temperature is not set in degrees. It is determined by how long and how intensely you heat, so you control the rhythm of the session yourself.

How it differs from a battery-operated device

The differences that are noticeable from the first session:

• there is no charging or battery that loses capacity over time
• there is no setting in degrees, only heating time
• you need a separate heat source, a torch or an induction heater
• chambers can be small, measured in tenths of a gram

This is not better or worse equipment, just operated differently. Those who like to set degrees and press a button will feel more confident with an electronic device.

What you need besides the device itself

A heat source. A regular lighter may be insufficient, and a torch or an induction heater, which heats without an open flame, is most often used.

Sometimes the lighter included in the set arrives empty because transport regulations do not allow it to be sent with gas. In that case, it needs to be filled before the first session.

Cleaning and daily maintenance

Manual equipment can be easier to maintain than electronic ones because it does not have components that cannot be soaked. Devices from this branch are usually disassembled into several metal parts and this can be done without tools.

Disassembling means that you gain access to the chamber and the vapor path entirely. Residue mainly accumulates in the chamber and on sealing elements, so these require attention most often.

Clean after cooling down. Metal cools down slower than the touch of the casing suggests, and disassembling a hot device ends in burns or lost small parts.

Safety and storage

Devices in this category are intended for adults. Store them out of reach of children, preferably in a case.

The heating element is hot after heating and cools down slower than the body. Only handle it after it has cooled down, and use the body or mouthpiece for carrying.

Use the torch away from flammable materials and do not direct the flame at elements that are not intended for that.

Is a manual vaporizer harder to use?

It requires practice, but it is not complicated. The biggest difference is that you control the temperature by the heating time, not a setting, so the first sessions can be uneven. After a few tries, you find your own rhythm and then repeatability is no longer a problem.

Do I need a torch, or is a lighter enough?

A torch is most often used because it provides a focused flame and heats the heating element faster. An alternative is an induction heater, which heats without an open flame. For a specific device, check which heaters its manufacturer lists as compatible.

How much herb does the chamber of such a device hold?

Usually significantly less than in electronic equipment, as chambers are measured in tenths of a gram. This equipment is for short, single portions, not for long sessions with one load. The exact capacity is provided for each device separately.

Do I need to buy parts for a manual vaporizer?

Not immediately. Devices in this category are usually entirely metal and disassemble without tools, so the first months are usually spent on cleaning alone. Sealing elements and mouthpieces are replaced later, and compatibility is checked the same way as with battery-operated equipment.
