Mascotte

Mascotte is a Dutch brand of rolling papers and filters that has been making papers for over 75 years. The products are designed in the Netherlands and manufactured in Europe. Mascotte papers come in Combi sets with filters, packaged in magnet-closed boxes, alongside Active carbon filters.

Mascotte papers: Original, Brown and Organic Hemp

All three lines are super-thin and slow-burning papers, glued with natural acacia gum. They differ in paper type.

• Original: classic paper made from FSC certified wood
• Brown: unbleached paper, hence its natural brown shade
• Organic Hemp: paper entirely made from hemp, with filters and packaging made from grass paper

Brown Slim in the magnet version has a King Size Slim format of 110 × 44 mm and a weight of 14 g/m². The low weight means less paper in the roll and less aftertaste. You can find a comparison of formats in the text which papers to choose, and all papers in the category Papers.

Combi: papers and filters in one box

The Combi set includes 34 slim papers and 34 filters in one booklet, meaning one filter for each sheet. Both parts end at the same time, leaving no excess of one of them.

The box closes with a magnet, so it does not open by itself in your pocket or backpack, and the papers do not bend. The magnet is embedded in the cardboard and does not contact the paper.

Mascotte also releases editions with their own graphic design: City Lights, Midnight, pink Pink, and a limited series BEZT x Mascotte with graphics by BEZT from the duo Etam. Inside is the same set of papers and filters.

Active carbon filters

Active filters have a diameter of 6 mm, which is a slim format, and are filled with activated carbon from coconut shells. In the described versions, both ends are closed with ceramic caps. The bag contains 50 filters and can be resealed.

The Pink edition has all filters in one pink color, while Active Colors mixes several colors in one bag. The filling, diameter, and caps are identical in both. We discuss the operation of such filters in the text carbon filters: how they work and if they are worth it, and other brands can be found in the category Filters.

What they are made of

All Mascotte products are vegan and gluten-free. The papers are made from wood and hemp, and the glue strip is natural gum from acacia bark.

The packaging has FSC certification, is recyclable, and is printed with inks approved for contact with food. This matters because the edge of the paper and filter goes into the mouth.

Frequently asked questions

What does Combi mean in the name?

That in the box, besides papers, there are filters, one for each sheet. In Combi slim, you get 34 papers and 34 filters, so you do not need to buy tips separately. Both parts end at the same time, leaving no excess of one of them.

How does Brown differ from Original?

By paper type. Brown is unbleached and has a natural brown shade, while Original is the classic version of the brand. Both are super-thin, burn slowly, and have acacia gum glue. Brown Slim in the magnet version has a King Size Slim format of 110 × 44 mm and a weight of 14 g/m².

Do Active filters fit slim papers?

Yes. The 6 mm diameter is a slim format, so the filter fits slim papers. You insert it in place of a regular tip and roll the joint as usual. The filters are filled with activated carbon from coconut shells, and the bag contains 50 pieces and can be resealed.

Are Mascotte papers vegan?

Yes. All products of the brand are vegan and gluten-free, and the glue is natural acacia gum, without artificial additives. The papers are made from wood and hemp, and the packaging has FSC certification, is recyclable, and is printed with inks approved for contact with food.

What is the purpose of the magnet in the box?

So that the box does not open by itself in your pocket or backpack. The contents do not spill out and do not bend, and the magnet is embedded in the cardboard, so the paper does not touch it. Mascotte also releases editions with their own graphic design, but inside is the same set of papers and filters.
