Hair care takes place in two different areas that require different products: on the scalp and along the length. Shampoo works primarily on the scalp, while the mask and conditioner work on the hair, which is dead tissue. In this category, you will find products for both tasks, mostly with hemp seed oil.
How to choose hair cosmetics?
Instead of looking for a product described with a slogan for all hair types, it is worth separating two questions: what is your scalp like and what is the condition of the length.
1. The scalp determines the shampoo. Oily skin needs a shampoo that effectively removes sebum, while dry and itchy skin tolerates gentle surfactants better. It is the scalp, not the ends, that dictates the choice of shampoo.
2. The length determines the conditioner and mask. Hair from a few centimeters down is older and more damaged than at the root. The conditioner and mask are applied there, avoiding the scalp to prevent weighing down the roots.
3. Porosity. Low-porosity hair has closed cuticles and poorly absorbs heavy oils, making it look weighed down quickly. High-porosity hair absorbs everything and needs richer formulations. This distinction explains why the same product works completely differently for two people.
4. Cleansing composition. Shampoos differ in the type of cleansing agents. Stronger surfactants effectively remove silicones and styling products, while gentler ones work better for daily washing and sensitive skin.
What you will find in the hair cosmetics category
The category includes shampoos, masks, and conditioners from the brands PALACIO and cannabellum, in versions with hemp oil and additives such as lavender or argan oil. You will find both products for daily washing and treatment products to be used every few days.
We have gathered skin care products in the categories body cosmetics and face cosmetics. We write about hemp oil in hair care in the guide about hemp oil for hair and scalp.
Shampoo, conditioner, mask. Division of tasks
The shampoo has one task: to cleanse the scalp. It is applied to the roots, massaged with fingertips, and rinsed off, while the foam running down the length is sufficient to cleanse the rest of the hair.
The conditioner closes the cuticles and makes detangling easier. It works briefly, usually from one to three minutes, and is applied from the middle of the length down.
The mask works longer, from five to twenty minutes, and has a richer formulation. It is used every few days, as daily use of a mask on low-porosity hair quickly leads to a weighed-down effect and greasiness at the roots.
How to wash hair so that products work
Before washing, it is worth thoroughly soaking the hair, as shampoo does not lather well on damp but not wet hair and requires a larger amount. A portion the size of a hazelnut is sufficient for medium-length hair, and for very dirty scalps, it is more effective to wash twice with a smaller amount than once with a large amount.
The water temperature matters for skin comfort: hot water stimulates sebaceous glands and dries out. The final rinse with cooler water helps close the cuticles and gives a clearer shine.
Safety and contraindications
Use the cosmetic only externally. Avoid contact with eyes, and in case of accidental contact, rinse them thoroughly with water. Before the first use of a new product, it is advisable to perform a patch test on a small area of skin behind the ear and wait a day.
Do not use on damaged scalp or with changes requiring dermatological consultation. If you notice increased hair loss, start with a visit to a doctor, as the cause usually lies beyond care. Store products out of reach of children.
Frequently asked questions
How often should you wash your hair?
It depends on the scalp, not a predetermined scheme. For oily skin, daily washing with a gentle shampoo is fine and does not increase sebum production. For dry skin, washing every two or three days is sufficient. A signal that you are washing too infrequently is itching and a feeling of heaviness at the roots.
Is the mask applied to the scalp?
Usually not. Masks have rich, fatty formulations intended for the dead structure of the hair, and on the scalp, they can clog follicle openings and accelerate greasiness. Apply them from the middle of the length down, unless the manufacturer explicitly indicates use on the scalp. Exceptions are masks intended for rubbing into the scalp, which have a lighter formulation and a different application method.
What is hair porosity and how to check it?
Porosity describes how raised the cuticles are on the surface of the hair. A simple home test involves placing a clean hair strand in a glass of water: low-porosity hair will float on the surface for a long time, while high-porosity hair will sink quickly. The test is indicative but sufficient to choose between a light and a rich formulation.
Does hemp oil weigh down hair?
Hemp seed oil is one of the lighter plant oils, so it weighs down less often than coconut or castor oil. However, with low-porosity hair, even a light oil can create a clumping effect if used in excess. Start with a few drops on the ends and observe.
Should you change shampoo from time to time?
Hair does not get used to shampoo, so rotation is not necessary. A change may be justified when conditions change: different water after moving, different season, different styling. If the product works well, there is no reason to change it just for the sake of change.
