Sour Diesel (Cannabis flos S-LAB): sativa with a caryophyllene profile without lineage

Sour Diesel reaches Polish pharmacies in two positions from one producer, and its lineage has not been established by any available source. We describe the profile composition, THC content ranges, and what studies on caryophyllene have not shown.

Producers S-LAB (2 pharmacy positions)
Medical brand the same as the producer
Alternative names none
Category according to sources sativa
Leading terpene caryophyllene
Other terpenes humulene limonene myrcene ocimene
Lineage unknown
Source compliance one source
  • Who supplies it. Exclusively S-LAB, so there is nothing to compare versions with, and a supply break means the absence of this strain, not another version of it.
  • Profile. Caryophyllene leads, alongside humulene, limonene, myrcene, and ocimene. We do not provide percentage shares because sources count them against different wholes.
  • Origin. Lineage unknown. This is a result, not a gap to fill: we do not add parents based on name similarity.
  • What is missing. The profile describes one source, so there is nothing to compare it with.

What is Sour Diesel and where does it come from?

It is unknown what parents it comes from. In the lineage graph of this cluster, Sour Diesel has an unknown origin, without a specified source, so the answer is as it sounds: the breeder of the parents did not disclose or the available descriptions contradict each other. It reaches Polish pharmacies as a sativa from one producer.

The name does not replace lineage, and this is evident in the neighboring entries of the same list. The Diesel component is also carried by Lilac Diesel, whose parents are silver lemon haze, forbidden fruit, nyc cherry pie, and citral glue, thus a set without a single common point with the strain described here. Among the parents, Gorilla Glue includes sour dubb and chocolate diesel: two names that break both components of the term of interest into separate breeding lines, none of which is this cultivar. A lineage entered by intuition would create false edges between the pages of this service, and once an edge is set, no one will untangle it later.

Without guessing, it can be said where this strain stands in the registry. The Polish database describing pharmacy positions records it as sativa, assigns it stimulating effects, and places caryophyllene at the forefront of the listed volatile components. Internationally, it is described more extensively than most neighbors from the same shelf, but breeding catalogs do not have the status of registration documentation and do not enter the lineage graph of this project. Availability changes independently of genetics: the permit for the raw material expires after a few years, delivery can be delayed by a quarter, and the wholesaler may have an empty shelf under a name that still formally appears in the list. The list we are working on found both positions of this strain as unavailable.

Which producers supply this strain to Polish pharmacies?

One. Sour Diesel appears in the Polish list exclusively under the S-LAB brand and only in two registered positions, which differ in declared THC content. No other company has reported this name for pharmacy circulation in the material on which we base this entire strain compilation.

Registered position Producer THC content after tolerance Genetics according to source Noted availability
Cannabis flos S-LAB, weaker variant S-LAB 16.2-19.8% sativa none at the time of listing
Cannabis flos S-LAB, stronger variant S-LAB 19.8-24.2% sativa none at the time of listing

The registered name of both positions sounds the same: Cannabis flos S-LAB. The numerical component, which is usually added to it in catalogs, repeats the value declared by the producer, and this has an allowable deviation upwards and downwards of one-tenth of its size. The quoted naked looks like a measurement of a specific package, which it is not, therefore we provide the content separately and always in ranges.

Two positions of one name are not two strains. The producer standardizes batches under a different declared value, so the patient receives the same plant material with a different analytical focus, not a different plant. Which variant is actually in the wholesaler is determined from month to month, therefore the current state of the shelf and all numbers variable over time are kept exclusively in the list of available medical marijuana strains, not on the pages of individual cultivars. Other positions of the same producer are collected in a separate text about S-LAB, covering all thirty-eight strains reported by this company. It is worth separating two shelves: outside of pharmacy circulation, there is over-the-counter hemp flower with negligible THC content, which, despite the similar name, is subject to different regulations and is not the same raw material.

What does Sour Diesel smell and taste like?

Descriptions diverge from reputation. The Polish pharmacy database assigns this position four scent descriptions: camphor, fruity, peppery, and spicy. The international description of the cultivar, on the other hand, speaks of a fuel note with a sour citrus accent, from which the whole name derives. None of these records comes from measurement.

The profile composition is provided as a composition, without numbers added to names, and this results from the arithmetic of the source itself. The database lists five volatile components for this position: humulene, caryophyllene, limonene, myrcene, and ocimene, and gives precedence in terms of the reported share to caryophyllene. However, when all five values assigned to this strain by the same list are added, the sum amounts to seventy-two percent instead of one hundred. The rest is not described: it is unknown whether there are components omitted from the list or a counting method in which the denominator is not the entire sample. A value placed next to the name would pretend to be the result of an analysis performed on this batch, and no such analysis has been published.

This description has one source, and this is also information about its weight. The profile comes from one Polish strain database, not from two independent ones, so there is nothing to compare it with, and discrepancies that appear with other cultivars only emerge after confronting two lists do not have a basis to show here. The scent descriptions are, after all, catalog categories assigned based on sensory evaluation, not chromatography of a specific batch. Two batches of the same name can smell recognizably different because the volatile composition changes with growing conditions, harvest time, and drying method.

How long does it take for the strain to take effect and how long does the effect last?

Depending on the route of administration: after vaporization within a few minutes, after ingestion only after half an hour or later. For Sour Diesel, no one has measured this separately, so the ranges below describe the behavior of the raw material in the body, not the property of this one name. Both S-LAB positions are divided by content, not speed.

The route of administration determines the course more than the strain itself, and the ranges below describe it, not this cultivar, because pharmacokinetic studies for a single cultivar have not been published.

Vaporization After ingestion
First sensations within a few minutes from half an hour to two
Onset another ten to thirty minutes slow, over several hours
Total duration within two to four hours after six, sometimes eight hours
Typical error none taking a dose after thirty minutes, which gives both doses at once

The practical consequence applies to both variants of this strain equally: the stronger position does not start faster nor lasts longer than the weaker one, because the clock is determined by the route of administration and physiology, and the difference in content translates into the strength of the sensation. There is no separate study not only for this name: pharmacokinetic studies are conducted on preparations with a known, measured dose, and the pharmacy flower described by the trade name is not such a preparation, because part of the substance remains in the vaporizer chamber and in the unburned material. The method of administration is determined by the attending physician, as they write the prescription and know the patient’s other medications.

What is known and what is not known about its effects?

Nothing is known about the strain itself that comes from research. Not a single clinical trial has been conducted on Sour Diesel, so everything that circulates in descriptions about stimulation and clarity of mind is user reports or catalog material. Evidence exists only for individual components.

The material collected for this page concerns caryophyllene, the leading component in the reported profile, not the strain as a whole.

Study Model and route of administration What was shown
Gertsch J et al., 2008
Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)
PMID:18574142
mouse (in vivo) and test tube (receptor binding, human cells) (E)-caryophyllene selectively bound to the CB2 receptor (Ki = 155 nM) and inhibited carrageenan-induced paw swelling in wild-type mice, but not in CB2 receptor-deficient mice (Cnr2-/-), indicating a CB2-dependent mechanism; the study did not include any anxiety tests.
Klauke AL et al., 2014
European Neuropsychopharmacology
PMID:24210682
rodent (mouse) Oral caryophyllene reduced late inflammatory pain in mice in the formalin test in a CB2 receptor-dependent manner, with no effect on the early phase; in a neuropathic pain model, it alleviated thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia without developing tolerance with chronic administration.

The limits of these two studies are described as the evidence base of the project describes them. In neither of the two studies was caryophyllene tested on humans or in inhaled form from flower; both works concern oral or systemic administration in mice in pain and inflammation models, not sleep or mood. Additionally, caryophyllene is one of the five listed components in the described list, and no one has publicly provided its quantities in the batch reaching the pharmacy. Therefore, the path from mice with an inflammatory response to a patient with a prescription is longer than it appears from the mere fact that it is the same chemical compound.

What side effects have been reported from this strain?

None, if asking about this specific name. The supervision of pharmacotherapy safety assigns reporting to the packaging and batch, so the cultivar does not appear in the form at all. For Sour Diesel, there is therefore not a single number that could be honestly placed here, and what follows describes the raw material.

Reports of side effects are collected for a medicinal product with a batch number, not for the strain name, so the following concerns hemp flower as a group of raw materials. The most commonly reported are dry mouth, red eyes, and increased heart rate. Less frequently described are dizziness upon rapid standing, daytime drowsiness, and temporary worsening of short-term memory, as well as anxiety increasing with dosage. A separate issue is medications taken concurrently, especially sedatives and those affecting coagulation: their assessment requires knowledge of the entire list of preparations, not the description of the plant. We do not provide the frequency of these symptoms numerically because public compilations for hemp flower in Poland do not separate them by individual products.

However, two notes concern the described position directly. The stronger variant of S-LAB carries a higher upper limit of content than the weaker variant, and the intensity of anxiety is described as increasing with dosage, so the choice of variant is not neutral for how much the patient will take in one inhalation. The catalog description assigns this strain a stimulating effect, which with such a set of symptoms can be felt differently in the evening than in the morning, but the statement about stimulation comes from the strain database, not from clinical observation. Both notes are reasoning from registration data and should be read as such.

At what temperature should this strain be vaporized?

It is not possible to provide a single number, and this is not evading the answer. Of the five volatile components listed in the profile of this position, the public database PubChem provides boiling points along with pressure only for three, while the other two are described with a notation that cannot be compared with the others.

For caryophyllene, the leading component in this list, the database notes boiling around 257 degrees Celsius at atmospheric pressure and a second reading at 130 degrees, taken under a pressure of 14 mm Hg. Limonene has an atmospheric value close to 178 degrees, myrcene close to 167. Humulene is listed only with a reading of 99-100 degrees at 3 mm Hg, i.e., under conditions close to vacuum, and ocimene with a notation without specified pressure. None of these last two numbers can be placed in the same row with the previous three because they do not measure the same thing.

Popular temperature tables compile them into one series, and that is why they contradict each other: some rows come from atmospheric measurements, some from vacuum measurements, and some from nowhere. The boiling point is also sometimes read as the threshold for vaporization, which it is not: molecules leave the material even below that threshold, albeit more slowly, which means that targeting a knob at one selected component is based on a misunderstanding. We elaborate on this further in a separate text about vaporization of terpenes from flower. The method of administration and equipment settings should be discussed with the attending physician, as the flower is dispensed by prescription, and the website does not select anything for anyone.

Which strains are related to it?

None is its sibling, two are its offspring. The lineage graph indicates Sour Diesel as the parent of Farm Gas and Sourdough, i.e., two positions listed in Polish pharmacies under a different producer than itself. Siblings cannot be indicated because we do not know its own parents.

Farm Gas was created by crossing Sour Diesel with GMO and is supplied by Aurora, and in its profile, it leads with limonene, not caryophyllene. Sourdough combines Wedding Cake with Sour Diesel and comes from the same producer as the previous one. In both cases, the offspring inherits half the material from the strain whose own origin we do not know, so the line breaks off one generation higher, and nothing will unlock that except revealing data by the breeder.

The common component of the name is not a clue here, and this must be separated from the facts of the graph. Lilac Diesel, supplied by three producers, shares the second word with the described strain and not a single parent. Ultra Jack has Ultra Sour in its lineage, which repeats the first component, also without kinship. Separate families of styles like haze or og kush stand alone: when they appear among parents, they denote a broad group, not an identified cultivar, so two strains sharing only such an ancestor do not become siblings because of that. An empty list of relationships can therefore be a correct result, not a gap to fill.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sour Diesel available in Polish pharmacies?

The name appears in the Polish list of pharmacy strains, but the list we are working on found both of its positions as unavailable. The state of the shelf changes from month to month, and we keep it only in the list of available strains.

How many registered positions does this strain have?

Two. Both come from S-LAB and bear the same registered name, differing only in the value declared by the producer.

What is the THC content in Sour Diesel?

Taking into account the producer’s ten percent tolerance, the weaker position falls within the range of 16.2-19.8%, and the stronger one within the range of 19.8-24.2%. A single number from the label is not a measurement of the content in a specific package.

Who is the parent of Sour Diesel?

It is unknown. In the lineage graph of this project, the strain has an unknown origin, without a specified source, and we do not fill it in with guesses based on the name.

Does Sour Diesel have siblings among strains from Polish pharmacies?

No. Siblings come from parents, and we do not know those. However, the offspring is known: Farm Gas and Sourdough, both supplied by Aurora.

Is the terpene profile of this strain confirmed?

It is described by one source, one Polish strain database, so there is nothing to compare it with. It lists five volatile components with caryophyllene at the forefront, but the sum of the reported shares amounts to seventy-two percent instead of one hundred, which shows that the denominator remains unknown.

Can Sour Diesel be purchased without a prescription?

No. Hemp flower is a pharmaceutical raw material in Poland dispensed by prescription, in category Rpw, and this text is for informational purposes and does not replace medical consultation.
