How to use PAX: step-by-step instructions for three models (2026)

PAX FOUR, Mini 2 and Plus step by step according to the manufacturer: filling, heating modes, inhaling, charging, cleaning, common problems, and warranty.

PAX Mini 2 is ready to inhale after about 22 seconds, and PAX FOUR, according to the manufacturer, in less than a minute (PAX). These are the two models that PAX currently sells as current. PAX Plus is being sold off: it has been replaced by FOUR, which went on sale on March 3, 2026. The devices look similar, but they are operated differently, from filling the oven to charging. This guide collects steps from the instructions, help pages, and PAX posts, without personal testing. When the manufacturer’s documents contradict each other, the text notes it. You will learn how to go through a session with each model, how to charge and clean it, and what to do when something does not work.

KEY INFORMATION
• You fill PAX FOUR lightly, to about 0.3 g of dry herb, without packing (PAX).
• For Mini 2 and Plus, the manufacturer advises to pack the herb tightly.
• You change the heating mode with short presses of the button; in Plus, the button is the mouthpiece.
• PAX does not publish the temperatures of the FOUR modes.
• Before cleaning, wait 10 minutes; clean Mini 2 and Plus every 3-5 sessions.

How to use PAX step by step?

A session in each PAX follows the same course: you fill the oven with ground herb, turn on the device, and wait for the readiness signal. Mini 2 and Plus are ready after about 22 seconds, FOUR according to PAX in less than a minute. The models differ in how to pack the herb and operate the button. The table compares the steps from the Mini 2 and Plus instructions and from PAX help pages.

2. Grinding medium fine medium fine or medium, not fine (PAX sources differ) ground herb; general advice from PAX: medium
3. Filling lightly pack to full, about 0.3 g; do not pack tightly pack tightly; full or half lid pack tightly; 0.5 g or 0.25 g lid
4. Turning on check in the box instructions (this guide does not describe this step) after attaching the mouthpiece, hold the button for 2 s and release press and release the mouthpiece
5. Heating LEDs indicate heating petals glow pink LEDs pulse pink
6. Readiness green LEDs, in less than a minute green petals, about 22 s vibration and mode color, about 22 s
7. Changing mode short presses of the button, then 3 s pause or shake same as in FOUR hold the mouthpiece for 2 s; switch with short presses; confirm with 2 s or shake
8. Inhaling selectable strength; flat mouthpiece slows flow gently, 3-5 s slowly, about 3 s
9. After session 10 min cooling before cleaning 10 min cooling; clean every 3-5 sessions clean every 3-5 uses

Why is there no description of turning on for FOUR? From button presses, the guide only describes changing the mode and resetting, as only these are provided by the reviewed PAX help pages. Turning on is described in the box instructions. You check the battery status by shaking the device.

Which PAX do you have and how do the models differ in operation?

You can recognize Mini 2 by its box: according to PAX, it is rounded and has the inscription “PAX Mini 2” above the barcode. You will find the serial number under the mouthpiece. It differs from the first Mini by vibrations, four heating modes, a larger oven, and a half lid. The first Mini does not have heating regulation. FOUR has been on sale since March 3, 2026, and Plus is being sold off.

The most differences concern control. In FOUR and Mini 2, you change modes with the power button, while in Plus, the button is the mouthpiece itself. You charge FOUR with a USB-C cable plugged into the side of the casing. Mini 2 and Plus are placed on a magnetic charger. Concentrates are only handled by Plus, with the insert from the Complete Kit. FOUR is, according to PAX, intended solely for dry herb.

The heating is also different. FOUR has, according to PAX, a hybrid heater and produces up to 50% more vapor than earlier models, including Plus; this is the manufacturer’s claim. Plus, according to the same PAX post, heats only by conduction. The type of heating for Mini 2 is not specified by PAX. The difference between conduction and hybrid heating is explained in the guide convection vs conduction vs hybrid vaporizer.

How to prepare PAX for the first session and fill the oven?

Charge Mini 2 fully before first use, as its shortened instruction advises (PAX). Then fill the oven. Here the models differ: for FOUR, PAX recommends lightly packing about 0.3 g of dry herb, while for Mini 2 and Plus, pack it tightly. For FOUR and Plus, PAX help pages do not provide such recommendations.

What is in the box? According to PAX, FOUR and Mini 2 come with two mouthpieces, flat and convex, and 3 spare screens. Mini 2 also has two lids: full and half. Plus in the Starter Kit has one lid, and you only get the half lid in the Complete Kit. You remove the Mini 2 lid by pressing its side, either of the two.

  • PAX FOUR: herb ground medium fine. Pour it in and lightly pack it until the oven is full, which is at about 0.3 g. Do not pack tightly. PAX redesigned the FOUR oven for easier filling and the lid for better airflow.
  • PAX Mini 2: pack the herb tightly. The grind level is described differently in PAX documents: the shortened instruction mentions medium fine, while the help page mentions medium, not fine. The full lid holds 0.5 g, the half lid 0.25 g, but these numbers are only provided in the press release, not on the product page.
  • PAX Plus: herb ground and packed tightly. The standard lid holds 0.5 g, the half lid from the Complete Kit holds 0.25 g. For concentrates, first remove the screen. Place the material in the insert, and slide the insert into the oven.

The general PAX advice page, written for Plus and Mini, advises to fill the oven in layers: pour and pack, then add more and pack again until full. For FOUR, this advice does not apply, as its page advises to only lightly settle the herb. You can find herb grinders in the grinders category.

How to set the heating mode in PAX and is an app needed?

Each of the three models has four heating modes, but only some documents provide the temperatures. For Plus, PAX publishes them itself: from 182 to 216 °C. For Mini 2, the numbers from about 180 to 215 °C come solely from the press release from October 20, 2025. For FOUR, the manufacturer does not provide any temperatures.

In FOUR and Mini 2, you change the mode the same way. With the device turned on, briefly press the power button until you reach the selected mode. Then wait about 3 seconds or shake the device to confirm your choice. In Plus, hold the mouthpiece for 2 seconds, switch modes with short presses, and confirm with a longer press or shake.

Mode PAX FOUR PAX Mini 2 (description: instruction; °C: press release) PAX Plus (PAX post, 2023)
Mode 1 temperature not provided purple, little vapor, discreet; about 180 °C Stealth (purple): darker LEDs, weaker vibration; 182 °C
Mode 2 temperature not provided green, longer sessions, saves herb; about 190 °C Efficiency, teal; 193 °C
Mode 3 temperature not provided yellow, flavor, mild vapor; about 200 °C Flavor, yellow; 204 °C
Mode 4 temperature not provided orange, most vapor; about 215 °C Boost, red, most vapor, suitable for concentrates; 216 °C

PAX only writes that the higher mode consumes more battery but produces more vapor. A review from herb.co provides for FOUR 190-220 °C, but these are not manufacturer data. Which mode to start with? General PAX advice for Plus and Mini recommends mode 2 or 3, while the FOUR page advises starting low and raising the mode during the session. How to choose the temperature for flavor and vapor action is described in the guide vaporization temperature: what to set and why.

To change the mode, an app is not needed, as you do everything with the button. PAX states that Plus works without an app. The help page for PAX Mini states that it does not have Bluetooth, but does not specify the generation. The product page and FOUR help pages do not mention the app.

How to inhale with PAX to get vapor?

For Mini 2, take gentle inhales, about 3-5 seconds each, advises PAX. A stronger or longer inhale adds air, not vapor, according to the manufacturer. Take breaks between inhales, and raise the mode during the session. When the oven cools down, stir the herb and pack it again.

For Plus, PAX has the motto “Sip it, don’t rip it”, meaning: sip, don’t rip. The general advice page for Plus and Mini mentions inhales lasting about 3 seconds. FOUR has a different motto: “Sip it or rip it!”. You can adjust the inhale strength here, and change the flow by swapping the mouthpiece. Two mouthpieces are included, flat and convex. The flat one, according to PAX, slows the airflow and may produce more vapor. The FOUR page also advises breaks between inhales and starting from a low mode.

Still little vapor? First, check the filling, as the models require different approaches. For FOUR, PAX recommends only light packing, while Mini 2 and Plus need to be packed tightly according to PAX.

The shortened Mini 2 instruction adds safety rules. The oven can heat up to 230 °C, so do not remove the lid when the device is on. Do not use Mini 2 without a lid or mouthpiece. After a session, do not touch it or store it for 10 minutes. According to PAX, this device is not for children or for pregnant or breastfeeding women. People with respiratory issues should not use it, and those taking prescription medications should consult a doctor.

How to charge PAX and check the battery status?

You charge FOUR with a USB-C cable plugged into the side of the casing, and a full charge from zero takes about 90 minutes (PAX). Mini 2 charges the same amount of time, but on a magnetic charger. Plus needs about 2.5 hours. Is it allowed to use PAX while charging? PAX’s help pages do not provide this information for any model.

Model Connector Full charge Working time Charging temperature
PAX FOUR USB-C in the casing about 90 min about 50 min or up to 5 sessions 0-45 °C
PAX Mini 2 magnetic charger, USB-C cable about 90 min 60 min (press release) PAX sources differ: 0-45 °C or 0-35 °C
PAX Plus magnetic contacts about 2.5 h over 2 hours 0-35 °C

You check the battery status of FOUR and Mini 2 by shaking the turned-on device. Each glowing petal represents 25% of the battery, and a red flashing LED in the upper left corner indicates that it needs charging. During charging, the petals pulse. When all pulse slowly white, the battery is full. Place Mini 2 so that its contacts hit the charger pins.

Do not charge FOUR in a car and do not leave it there. If it is not full after about 2 hours, PAX advises a 5-9 V power supply with a current of 2.5 to 3 A. Another USB-C cable or checking connections may also help. For Mini 2, PAX documents provide different charger currents, so this guide omits it. Do not charge Mini 2 in a drawer or cabinet. Do not charge it outdoors or in the rain. The Mini 2 battery cannot be replaced. Plus, according to PAX’s help page, is best charged from a laptop port or a 1.5 A power supply.

How to clean PAX and with what?

Clean Mini 2 every 3-5 sessions with isopropyl alcohol, after 10 minutes of cooling the oven (shortened Mini 2 instruction). The same rhythm, every 3-5 uses, is provided by the Plus instruction. The general PAX page mentions cleaning “every few uses”. PAX does not provide the cleaning steps for FOUR on the help pages. PAX only states that the FOUR oven is easier to clean and that you need to wait 10 minutes after use.

The Mini 2 instruction describes cleaning in seven steps:

  1. Wait 10 minutes for the oven to cool.
  2. Remove the lid and clean the oven with the Multi-Tool.
  3. Remove the mouthpiece. Dip a wire brush in isopropyl alcohol and push it from the top into the vapor channel to push out the screen.
  4. Move the brush back and forth in the channel like dental floss.
  5. Wipe the oven and lid with a cotton swab or paper towel with alcohol.
  6. Soak the screen for 15 minutes in alcohol; the instruction illustration specifies 90% alcohol.
  7. Dry everything thoroughly before reassembling.

The general PAX cleaning page adds a few rules. You can soak the silicone mouthpiece and screen in isopropyl alcohol, but then dry them completely. Never immerse the oven lids, including the half lid, in liquid. After cleaning, turn the device on once for heating, turn it off, and wait for it to cool. You can soak the lid and insert tank for concentrates in Plus in alcohol; discoloration is normal according to PAX.

You will replace the used Mini 2 screen by pressing its round end with the Multi-Tool. The Mini 2 instruction prohibits putting the device in the dishwasher. The washing machine and dryer are also out of the question. The cleaning agents and rules for other devices are described in the guide cleaning the vaporizer: how and with what.

What to do if PAX turns off by itself or does not charge?

The only automatic shutdown that PAX describes is shutdown due to overheating. In FOUR, all four LEDs pulse orange or red, and then the device turns off; PAX advises waiting 30 minutes. In Mini 2, the petals flash alternately red and orange 4 times, after which the device turns off.

Symptom Model What PAX advises
LEDs pulse orange or red, then shutdown FOUR cool for 30 min, choose a lower mode, shorten sessions, turn off earlier
petals flash red and orange 4 times, then shutdown Mini 2 this is overheating; no further steps are provided in the instruction
too hot vapor or mouthpiece FOUR flat mouthpiece, fresh herb ground medium fine, light packing, clean vapor channel
after about 2 h the battery is not full FOUR 5-9 V power supply, 2.5-3 A; another USB-C cable; check connections
LEDs do not light on the charger PAX (general help page) USB port on the computer; press the charging contacts

When the device behaves strangely, the only option left is a reset, which is different for each model. You reset FOUR after turning it on by holding the power button for 7 seconds. In Mini 2, you also hold it for 7 seconds with the device turned on, and the petals will then flash 5 times white. For Plus, turn it on and enter mode settings by long pressing the mouthpiece. Hold it horizontally, with the oven in your right hand, and then turn it away from you 5 times. The petals will flash 5 times white, and the device will vibrate.

PAX does not provide the idle automatic shutdown time for these models. However, it advises turning off the device when not in use.

What is the warranty on PAX and how much do they cost in Poland?

The FOUR page in the European PAX store states a 2-year limited warranty and one additional year after registration within 30 days. The American warranty conditions for PAX provide the same for Mini 2, and in some states in the USA, 3 years. Plus has a 10-year warranty according to these conditions. This guide does not provide the European warranty conditions for PAX.

What does this mean for you? The numbers from the USA do not automatically transfer to a purchase in Poland. Before buying, ask the seller who provides the warranty and under what conditions. If the manufacturer offers registration, do it within 30 days, as the additional year depends on it. Are you buying Plus on sale? Ask directly if the 10-year warranty from the USA applies in Poland.

Prices in Polish stores in October 2026: FOUR about 799-849 PLN, Mini 2 about 629-679 PLN, and Plus on sale about 599-1,049 PLN. The European PAX store no longer lists Plus in the dry herb vaporizer category. How PAX models compare to other dry herb devices is shown in the vaporizer ranking 2026. You can see and discuss PAX vaporizers with staff at three u Bucha stores in Warsaw.
