What is Shishkaberry and where does this strain come from?
Shishkaberry is a hybrid with a documented lineage: a cross of the DJ Short Blueberry line with an unspecified Afghan strain, attributed to a breeder known as Breeder Steve and the seed company Spice of Life Seeds, dated 1996. It reached Polish pharmacies as a single entry from one producer.
The lineage is known only halfway, and that half has a proper name. DJ Short Blueberry is a specific breeding line conducted under the breeder’s name, so it can be pointed out. The second parent is listed in the source as an unknown Afghan strain, which is a label for an entire group of plants from one cultivation region. Such a record does not indicate a plant, only the area from which it originated.
The lineage record has two supports for us. The first is the Leafly database, which states the crossing of the DJ Short Blueberry line with an unspecified Afghan strain and ties it to the breeder and the year 1996. Doses were administered in milligrams per kilogram of mouse body weight, and in two of the three studies, by intraperitoneal injection. Translating such a dose to one puff of vapor from flower is not arithmetic, and no one has published such a conversion. Separately stands what is not being studied: popular databases attribute balanced effects to this name, and commercial descriptions repeat this label without indicating where it came from.
In humans, it has not been shown that myrcene alone alleviates insomnia at doses typical for inhalation of flower. The direction of the effect in rodents depends on the method of administration and sex: after intraperitoneal injection in 2002, a slightly anxiogenic effect was described, while after vaporization in 2024, an anxiolytic effect was noted in females.
