The rest contained less or more than the producer promised, and eighteen samples also contained THC. This single number tells more about the oil market than all the slogans on the packaging combined. So before you compare full spectrum with isolate and decide between 5% and 10%, it’s worth knowing how to check what’s really in the bottle. However, when authors applied a standard clinical criterion of at least 50% seizure reduction, the difference disappeared: 37% versus 42%, with no statistical significance.
This distinction matters practically. Subjective “it’s better” clearly favors plant extracts, but the hard numeric criterion does not. Data come from observational studies collected from eleven publications, without control groups or randomization, so patient expectation differences may have contributed.
A much stronger observation from the same work is that patients on full spectrum took on average 6.0 mg per kg body weight daily, while those on purified CBD took 25.3 mg. That’s over four times the dose for a similar effect. Side effects, both mild and severe, were more frequent in the purified CBD group, which is unsurprising at such high doses.
The takeaway for buyers is this. Full spectrum probably allows achieving the goal with a smaller cannabidiol dose, meaning cheaper and less liver burden. However, this does not mean isolate “doesn’t work”: in the same data it performed comparably but required much more substance.
There is one caveat rarely mentioned. All these numbers come from patients with drug-resistant epilepsy, often children, taking doses in mg per kg body weight. Which carrier oil to choose: MCT, hemp, or olive?
The carrier determines taste, stability, and how well fat carries cannabidiol through the intestinal wall. The pharmacokinetic review by Millar et al. (Front Pharmacol, 2018) notes higher maximum CBD concentrations with lipid formulations. However, no study compares MCT, hemp oil, and olive oil head-to-head in humans, so differences are based on chemistry, not clinical results.

What can be said with data coverage? The safety review by Iffland and Grotenhermen (Cannabis Cannabinoid Res, 2017) summarizes that chronic use and doses up to 1,500 mg per day were well tolerated in humans multiple times. Most commonly reported side effects were fatigue, diarrhea, and changes in appetite and body weight. This is the upper dose where good tolerance was observed, not a recommendation to follow.
The other limit was set by the evaluating body and this number can be given because it is not a recommendation but a ceiling. The EFSA panel in a 2026 statement derived a temporary safe cannabidiol dose of 0.0275 mg per kg body weight per day, about 2 mg for a 70 kg person, and only for supplements with at least 98% purity. The same document states safety cannot be established for people under 25 years old, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and those taking medications (EFSA NDA Panel, 2026).
The discrepancy is not a contradiction but a difference in questions. The first says at what dose study participants reported no serious problems. The second says what value the evaluating body cannot defend as safe for the general population.
The practical conclusion differs from guides with ready tables. Since no dose is established, no one will calculate it for you, certainly not the store or an online text. The starting point is set with a doctor or pharmacist who knows your medications and chronic diseases.
There is also a trap easy to fall into with any change. Change only one thing at a time. If on the same day you add drops, move the portion from morning to evening, and start taking oil after a meal, you won’t know what caused improvement, and if no improvement, what to undo. Does the method of administration change how much CBD reaches the blood?

The certificate of analysis is a lab report describing what is actually in a specific product batch. It is the only quality filter you can check yourself. A good certificate contains six result blocks:

The document alone is not enough. Check if the lab is independent of the producer, has ISO 17025 accreditation, if the document date is not older than a year, and if the batch number on the certificate matches the number on the bottle. Carbon dioxide becomes supercritical at 31.06 degrees Celsius and 73.83 bar pressure. This low critical point is its biggest advantage, allowing the process at a temperature that does not destroy terpenes. The gas is inert, cheap, and easy to remove from the product, making it the solvent of choice for heat-sensitive plant material.
However, a “CO2” label does not guarantee better oil. Poorly conducted supercritical extraction will perform worse than well-controlled ethanol extraction, and the certificate of analysis tells you much more about the product than the method name. The best documented area is tension and sleep. A retrospective case series by Shannon et al. (Perm J, 2019) included 72 adult psychiatric clinic patients. Is CBD oil legal in Poland and does it cause positive THC test?

The definition concerns the plant, not the final product, and does not refer only to delta-9-THC: industrial hemp is Cannabis sativa L. where the sum of delta-9-THC and tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) in flower or fruiting tops with unremoved resin does not exceed 0.3% dry weight, rounded to one decimal place.
This distinction changes lab test results, so it’s worth knowing before reading the certificate. The basis is art. 4 point 5 of the Act of July 29, 2005 on counteracting drug addiction as amended by the act of March 24, 2022 (Dz.U. 2022 item 763), effective May 7, 2022. This reverses the popular fridge advice. Cooling won’t hurt but alone does little. Only this result allows comparing 5% oil in 10 ml with 15% oil in 30 ml, as the amount alone says nothing about how much substance you buy.
