Pave S1 (Cannabis flos Cantourage): caryophyllene and lineage from Paris OG

Pave S1 is a hybrid from Cantourage's offer, present in Polish pharmacies in one entry. We have gathered its documented lineage, terpene profile composition from one source, and the limits of what has actually been shown about caryophyllene.

Pave S1 is one of the newer entries in the Polish pharmaceutical list and one of the few for which the lineage can be verified on both sides. Below is what is known about it from the data, and separately what is not known despite circulating descriptions online.

  • Who supplies it. Exclusively Cantourage, so there is nothing to compare versions with, and a supply interruption means the absence of this strain, not another version of it.
  • Profile. It is led by caryophyllene, alongside farnesene, limonene, linalool, and pinene. We do not provide percentage shares because sources count them against different totals.
  • Origin. The lineage is established, with parents being Paris OG and The Menthol.
  • What is missing. The profile is described by one source, so there is nothing to compare it with.

Where does Pave S1 come from and what does the S1 suffix in the name mean?

Pave S1 comes from the American breeding of Compound Genetics and was created by crossing Paris OG with The Menthol. The S1 suffix indicates a generation from self-pollination of the base strain Pave, not a separate cross. The lineage is documented on both sides in this case, which is not a rule in this strain comparison.

The breeder maintains Pave as a proprietary line, and the S1 designation refers to the method of its reproduction: the base plant was pollinated with its own pollen, so the offspring comes from a single individual, not from a pair of parents. This distinction is important when reading breeding lists, as Pave and Pave S1 are sometimes listed next to each other as two strains, even though the latter is a generation of the former.

The origin on the Paris OG and The Menthol side is provided by the public genealogy of the breeder, and it is repeated in the Polish commercial description at the time of the strain’s introduction to the market. In the comparison on which this cluster is based, 25 out of 85 cultivars have no established origin because the breeder has not disclosed it or the sources contradict each other. Pave S1 does not belong to this group, and that is the only reason why the parents are mentioned here by name.

The name itself proves nothing. The term Pave does not appear in any other entry from this list, and the phonetic similarity to commercial names outside pharmacies does not indicate anything about genetics.

Which producer supplies Pave S1 to Polish pharmacies?

One. Cantourage. In our pharmaceutical list, Pave S1 appears in one entry and there is no second version of this cultivar from another producer, so comparing series between suppliers is impossible here. Cantourage itself offers a total of five strains covered by this list in Polish pharmacies.

Form dry, flower pharmaceutical list
Number of entries for this cultivar 1 pharmaceutical list
Genetics according to the source hybrid budcare.pl

A single supplier means that the presence of this entry in circulation depends on one chain: on the permit, on the series, and on the delivery date. When the series runs out, there is no second producer where the same cultivar would be waiting under a different registered name. Therefore, the list of strains present in pharmacies ages faster than the description of a single plant, and the current state is maintained on a separate summary page of the cluster.

The registered name of all entries from this producer sounds the same after removing the numerical suffix. It is the number that distinguishes Pave S1 in the register from the other four Cantourage strains present in Poland. The declared THC content for this entry ranges from 24.6% to 30.0%. We provide it as a range because the producer declares one value and allows deviation in both directions. In the registration record, the decimal part of this value stands without a comma, next to the size of the permissible deviation, so at a cursory reading, one is taken for the other, resulting in a range several times narrower than declared.

We have separately described the producer itself and the other strains that brought to Polish pharmacies.

What does Pave S1 smell like and what does the profile composition say about it?

Minty and sweet, with a fruity note and a distinct fuel accent. This is how the aroma of Pave S1 is described by the only source that publishes any description of the scent for this entry. Additionally, there is a peppery tone, consistent with the caryophyllene indicated in our pharmaceutical list as the leading terpene of this strain.

The profile composition describes five compounds for Pave S1 from one source, the service budcare.pl, and lists them as: farnesene, caryophyllene, limonene, linalool, and pinene. The second service we compare in this project does not describe this strain at all, so there is nothing to compare or correct here. The description comes from one source and should be read as such.

This same source assigns a participation number to each of these five compounds. Summed for Pave S1, they give 125, which is a value that does not fit within a hundred and cannot describe a part of a whole. In the entire collection of profiles from this service, there are 46 different sums, ranging from 14 to 125, with a median of 82, and six entries exceed a hundred out of 145. Pave S1 stands highest among them and is the only entry with this sum. Therefore, in the texts of this cluster, we present the composition as a composition, without numbers next to the compound names.

The aroma is, after all, a sensory description, not a measurement. The same sample smells different after two weeks in a jar than on the day the package is opened, and descriptions in commercial sources are created from one sniff, not from chromatographic separation.

How long does it take for Pave S1 to take effect and how long does it last?

After vaporization in a few minutes, after ingestion much later. No separate measurement has been published for Pave S1, so the course is described for the route of administration, not for this cultivar. The method of administration is determined by the attending physician, and it is they, not the strain name, who decides how the first hour looks.

The route of administration determines the course more than the strain itself, and the ranges below describe it, not this cultivar, because no pharmacokinetic study for a single cultivar has been published.

Vaporization After ingestion
First sensations after a few minutes from half an hour to two
Onset another ten to thirty minutes slow, over several hours
Total duration within two to four hours after six, sometimes eight hours
Typical error none taking a dose after thirty minutes, which gives both doses at once

Cultivars differ in composition, not in absorption physiology. Nothing in the data about Pave S1 indicates that this entry deviates in this respect from the other 84 cultivars in our list, and no such comparison has been conducted so far.

What has been shown in studies on caryophyllene, and what has not?

Much has been shown about caryophyllene itself and nothing about this strain. Two works from the evidence base of this project concern a single compound administered to mice, not the Pave S1 flower inhaled by a patient. The rest of what circulates about it online is a commercial description or user report.

Study Model and route of administration What was shown
Gertsch J et al., 2008
Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)
PMID:18574142
mouse (in vivo) and test tube (receptor binding, human cells) (E)-caryophyllene selectively bound to the CB2 receptor (Ki = 155 nM) and inhibited carrageenan-induced paw swelling in wild-type mice, but not in CB2 receptor-deficient mice (Cnr2-/-), indicating a CB2-dependent mechanism; the study did not include any anxiety tests.
Klauke AL et al., 2014
European Neuropsychopharmacology
PMID:24210682
rodent (mouse) Oral caryophyllene reduced the late inflammatory pain phase in the formalin test in a CB2 receptor-dependent manner, with no effect on the early phase; in a neuropathic pain model, it alleviated thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia without developing tolerance with chronic administration.

The limits of both studies need to be stated plainly. In neither of the two studies was caryophyllene tested on humans or in inhaled form from the flower; both works concern oral or systemic administration in mice in pain and inflammation models, not sleep or mood.

Aside from these two studies, there is nothing for Pave S1 that could be called evidence. The source describing its profile assigns it relaxing effects, but this is a catalog label given to the strain by the editorial team of the service, not a result of measurement in patients. The producer’s material and forum reports speak of experiences that have not been collected in a controlled manner.

What side effects have been reported after Pave S1?

None. There is no separate statistics for reports under the name Pave S1, as safety oversight links an event to the medicinal product and batch number, not to the cultivar. This is not a gap in our study, but rather the way the entire reporting system works.

Reports of adverse effects are collected for the medicinal product with a batch number, not for the strain name, so the following pertains to cannabis flower as a group of raw materials. The most commonly reported effects are dry mouth, red eyes, and increased heart rate. Less frequently, dizziness upon rapid standing, daytime drowsiness, and temporary worsening of short-term memory are described, as well as anxiety that increases with dosage. A separate issue is medications taken concurrently, especially sedatives and those affecting coagulation: their assessment requires knowledge of the entire list of preparations, not just the description of the plant. We do not provide the frequency of these symptoms numerically, as public compilations for cannabis flower in Poland do not separate them by individual products.

For this entry, there is one caveat. The declared content is among the higher in our list, and the intensity of some of the aforementioned symptoms depends on the dose. Translating this to a specific patient is the task of the attending physician, as it requires knowledge of the dose and other medications being taken.

At what temperature do the terpenes from the Pave S1 profile vaporize?

There is no single such temperature. The five compounds listed in the Pave S1 profile have boiling points spread over about a hundred degrees, and one of them has no measurement in the public database. The boiling point itself is not a threshold, beyond which vaporization begins.

Compound from the profile Boiling point at atmospheric pressure Note on source record
pinene 156.2 degrees Celsius converted from degrees Fahrenheit
limonene 177.8 degrees Celsius separate record states 175-176 without pressure
linalool 195.5 degrees Celsius source records range from 194 to 200
caryophyllene 257.5 degrees Celsius separate measurement of 130 pertains to pressure of 14 mm Hg
farnesene not in the database PubChem does not provide a boiling point

The numbers in the table come from PubChem and pertain to pure compounds, not the flower. Vaporization occurs well below the boiling point, as vapor pressure increases exponentially with temperature, and the boiling point is only the moment when it equals the surrounding pressure. Popular targeting of a specific terpene is based on reversing this relationship.

Farnesene falls out of such a comparison altogether, as the public database does not provide a boiling point for it. With caryophyllene, it is the opposite: it has an atmospheric record and a separate measurement under reduced pressure, and these two numbers appear contradictory until the pressure at which they were obtained is omitted.

Additionally, the temperature shown on the vaporizer is not the temperature of the flower. We have separately outlined why the setting and the material are two different quantities and why temperature tables for terpenes cannot be compared with each other. The method of taking the flower is determined by the attending physician, and this text is not an instruction manual for the equipment.

Which strains from Polish pharmacies are related to Pave S1?

Strain Common parent Leading terpene Producers
Pink Certz The Menthol nerolidol S-LAB

One: Pink Certz. Both strains have one common parent, which is The Menthol, and both originate from the same breeding. Aside from this pair, the pedigree chart of our list does not connect Pave S1 with anything else, although we checked both sides of its origin.

Pink Certz reaches Polish pharmacies from a different producer than Pave S1, so one breeding family enters the shelf through two independent paths. We have described this strain separately, along with its own profile, in which the leading terpene is nerolidol, not caryophyllene. The common parent does not therefore transfer the profile to the offspring in a way that could be read from the name.

The other side of the Pink Certz lineage leads to Grape Gasoline and gives it two more strains from the same parent: Gastro Pop and Modified Gas. None of them is related to Pave S1, even though Modified Gas is listed in the pharmacy under the same producer’s label. Sibling of a sibling does not create a family.

Paris OG, the second parent of this strain, has not left any other offspring in our list. There are three names with the OG suffix here, and none has Paris OG in its lineage, which clearly shows how much value is in inferring kinship from the sound of a commercial name.

Frequently asked questions about Pave S1

Is Pave S1 an indica or sativa strain?

The only source describing this entry classifies it as a hybrid and does not provide proportions between the lines. The division into indica and sativa today describes more the plant’s growth habit than its composition, so this description does not say anything about the profile or effects.

Who bred Pave S1?

The strain comes from the breeding of Compound Genetics and was created by crossing Paris OG with The Menthol. The S1 designation indicates a generation obtained from self-pollination of the base plant Pave.

Is Pave S1 available in Polish pharmacies?

In the list on which this text is based, Pave S1 appears in one entry from the producer Cantourage. Availability changes with permits and deliveries, so the current state is checked on the summary page of the cluster, not in the strain description.

What terpenes are listed in the Pave S1 profile?

Farnesene, caryophyllene, limonene, linalool, and pinene. The set comes from one source, and we do not provide participation numbers because their sum for Pave S1 is 125 and cannot be read as a part of a whole.

Does Pave S1 have analgesic effects?

This has not been shown for this strain. Both works from the evidence base of this project concern caryophyllene itself administered to mice, and transferring such a result to flower inhaled by a human is not warranted.

Which pharmaceutical strains are related to Pave S1?

Pink Certz, through the common parent The Menthol. The other strains in this list do not share a common ancestor with Pave S1, including those that are listed in the pharmacy under the same producer’s label.

Does Pave S1 require a prescription?

Yes. Cannabis flower is issued in Poland only by a doctor’s prescription in the Rpw category, and the choice of strain and method of administration is up to the attending physician.

Cannabis flower is a pharmaceutical raw material issued by a doctor’s prescription in the Rpw category. The material is informational in nature and does not replace medical advice nor is it an encouragement to use. The flower offered for retail sale is a separate category of products and is under its own address.
