In a Polish pharmacy, the cheapest offers per gram of the most widely available preparations started on September 14, 2026, at 14.90 PLN, while the police reported an average of 46 PLN on the black market for 2023. In a pharmacy, you pay for a prescription medicine, and prices for the same package vary several times between pharmacies. The average black market price is given by the National Center for Counteracting Addictions report and describes the entire country, not the price in a specific city. Below we compare these data with prices in the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Uruguay, as well as the median from Colorado, converted to zlotys. Each number has a source and date of reading or the year it concerns. Where there is no official price, we state this directly instead of giving a forum amount.

How much does a gram of marijuana cost in Poland in 2026?

The cheapest pharmacy offer per gram of the most widely available preparation was 14.90 PLN on September 14, 2026 (Gdzie po lek price comparison). The latest average from the black market, 46 PLN per gram, comes from data of the Police Headquarters for 2023, collected in the KCPU report.

These two numbers describe two different markets. The pharmacy sells medicine on prescription, so you pay for a package with specified THC content and a known manufacturer. Buyers on the black market do not know what they get, and possession itself is a crime. You can legally buy a gram of marijuana with THC only in a pharmacy after visiting a doctor.

Pharmacy prices were read on one day, September 14, 2026, and the latest black market data concern 2023. Therefore, each amount is given with the date it concerns, and years are not mixed without indication.

Hemp dried herb from stores comes from fiber hemp, which the Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction treats differently than cannabis other than fiber hemp, so this text does not cover it, and differences are explained in the entry about where to legally buy marijuana and its substitutes in Poland.

How much does a gram of medical marijuana cost in a pharmacy?

The cheapest offer per gram of medical marijuana ranged on September 14, 2026, from 14.90 to 44.33 PLN, depending on the preparation. This results from the prices of packages in the Gdzie po lek price comparison, divided by the number of grams. The table includes twelve preparations with specified weight, available in at least 11% of pharmacies.

Prices were read on September 14, 2026. The price comparison shows the price in the cheapest pharmacy on the list, while in other outlets the same package costs more, as explained in the next section.

In the table, neither potency nor manufacturer arranges prices in a simple pattern. Aurora preparations cost in the cheapest offer from 15.00 to 44.33 PLN per gram, and Cantourage preparations from 15.00 to 36.69 PLN. The most expensive per gram was a preparation with 20% THC, and one of the cheapest had 27% THC. How much does the price of the same dried herb differ between pharmacies?

Even several times. A 10 g package of Aurora with 27% THC cost from 150.00 to 718.20 PLN on September 14, 2026 (Gdzie po lek), and a 15 g package of S-LAB with 18% THC from 300.00 to 835.99 PLN (Gdzie po lek).

Converted per gram, this is 15.00-71.82 PLN for Aurora and 20.00-55.73 PLN for S-LAB. The most expensive pharmacy charged almost five times more for Aurora than the cheapest, and almost three times more for S-LAB.

Dried herb in a pharmacy has the status of a pharmaceutical raw material for magistral preparations. This status was introduced by the amendment of July 7, 2017 (Dz.U. 2017 item 1458), which added Article 33a to the Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction. The permit to market such raw material is issued by the President of the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products for 5 years.

For both checked preparations, the choice of pharmacy changed the price several times. Before filling a prescription, it is worth comparing several offers of the same preparation, not just the cheapest item on the list.

How to calculate the cost of a month of therapy?

The cost of a month is the number of purchased packages times their price in the chosen pharmacy. One 10 g package cost from 149.00 to 443.25 PLN on September 14, 2026, depending on the preparation (Gdzie po lek). The amount of medicine for a month results from the prescription and is determined solely by the doctor. The table above allows calculating the package price for each of the twelve preparations.

For Aurora with 27% THC, the choice of pharmacy changed the bill almost fivefold. Two packages of Aurora with 27% THC cost 300.00 PLN in the cheapest pharmacy and 1436.40 PLN in the most expensive.

A prescription has its limits. It is issued after a personal examination of the patient, and one prescription for such medicine can cover up to 90 days of use (Dz.U. 2025 item 1678, § 7). The cost of the medicine also includes the qualifying visit and control visits, which the pharmacy price list does not show.

How much does a gram of marijuana cost on the black market in Poland?

On average 46 PLN per gram in 2023. The same amount is given by two sources collected in the National Center for Counteracting Addictions report: data from the Police Headquarters and responses from participants in harm reduction programs. This is the latest nationwide number that could be read from the source.

The wholesale price column in table 7.4 of the report has the note “price per kg” and gives the number 20 for marijuana without further unit description. The amount of 20 PLN for a whole kilogram would contradict the street price of 46 PLN per gram, so we interpret this number as 20 thousand PLN per kilogram, i.e., 20 PLN per gram. With this interpretation, wholesale prices of marijuana and hashish are lower than retail prices.

The report notes that street prices are not uniform and differ even within one voivodeship. The average 46 PLN thus describes the market nationwide, not the price in a specific place. According to the same report, marijuana is among the cheapest drugs in retail sales.

Price is only part of the risk. On the illegal market, no one provides THC content, and possession itself is a crime, as we write below.

Is marijuana getting more expensive in Poland?

Yes. The average retail price per gram increased from 20-34 PLN in 2017 to 34 PLN in 2019 and 46 PLN in 2023. All three numbers come from successive government reports on drugs in Poland, with the latest given by the 2023 KCPU Report.

The 2017 number comes from police data in the 2018 drug situation report in Poland, and the 2019 number from data submitted to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in the 2020 drug situation report in Poland.

Over six years, the upper limit of the average price increased by 12 PLN, i.e., by more than one third. However, the successive compilations were made in different years and in different formats, so the trend should be treated as a direction, not an exact measurement. For 2017, the report gives a range, not a single average, so comparison with that year is only approximate.

Potency increased in parallel. According to the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police, the average THC content in marijuana increased from 1% in 2005 to 11%, as reported in the 2018 drug situation report in Poland. The report does not directly link these two phenomena, so we do not conclude whether the more expensive gram is a result of higher potency.

How much does a kilogram of marijuana cost?

With the table reading described above, the average wholesale price of marijuana was about 20 thousand PLN per kilogram in 2023. Retail 46 PLN per gram corresponds to 46,000 PLN for the same amount, so the street price is more than twice the wholesale price (KCPU report, table 7.4).

The report adds that wholesale prices change more often than street prices.

For comparison, the legal market in the US state of Colorado. From July 1 to September 30, 2026, the median price of unprocessed flowers there was 574 dollars per pound (Colorado Department of Revenue, page status as of September 14, 2026). This is about 1265 dollars per kilogram, or about 4760 PLN at the NBP exchange rate of September 14, 2026.

This is the median price of unprocessed marijuana, not the retail shelf price. Still, it shows the scale: a kilogram from the legal market in Colorado costs several times less than a kilogram from the Polish black market.

Such amounts are a separate legal category in Poland. Possession of a significant amount of an intoxicating substance is punishable by imprisonment from 1 to 10 years (Article 62 section 2 of the Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction).

What are the penalties for possession of marijuana in Poland?

Possession of marijuana against regulations is punishable by imprisonment of up to 3 years, according to Article 62 section 1 of the Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction. For a significant amount, the penalty is from 1 to 10 years. For smaller amounts, a fine, restriction of liberty, or imprisonment of up to one year may apply.

The prosecutor may discontinue proceedings if it concerns a small amount for personal use (Article 62a). This is their discretion, not your right, so one cannot count on discontinuation in advance.

The provision is often applied. In 2022, 34,563 proceedings under Article 62 were initiated, i.e., 92% of all proceedings under the Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction, compared to 30,478 in 2020 (KCPU report, table 7.2).

Purchasing abroad does not change anything here. Sale in a Dutch coffeeshop is only tolerated, and importing narcotics into Poland against regulations is a separate offense under Article 55 of the same Act. The exception is medicine from a pharmacy. A patient with a prescription has dried herb legally, in the amount and form resulting from the prescription.

How much does a gram of marijuana cost in Germany?

There is no official answer to this question. The German KCanG Act allows adults to have up to 25 g on them and describes home cultivation and cultivation associations. We did not find an official price per gram in any of these channels, so we provide the limits from the Act and one survey before the clubs started.

At home, an adult may have up to 50 g and up to three plants (§ 3 and § 9). An association issues a member up to 25 g daily and 50 g monthly. A person aged 18-21 may receive up to 30 g monthly with THC content up to 10% (§ 19).

The CSC-Maps and BvCW survey from October 2023, conducted among 73 associations, asked about the price clubs expected before starting and indicated 7-8 euros per gram, i.e., 30.37-34.71 PLN at the NBP exchange rate of September 14, 2026 (BvCW announcement). This expectation was before clubs operated and is not treated as the current market price.

How much does a gram of marijuana cost in a Dutch coffeeshop?

In 2025, the most popular Dutch marijuana strains cost on average 11.33 euros per gram in coffeeshops, and the strongest 12.57 euros. Data come from the annual measurement of the THC monitor of the Trimbos Institute, published on January 21, 2026. At the NBP exchange rate of September 14, 2026, this is 49.16-54.54 PLN.

Trimbos also provides potency. The most sold Dutch marijuana had on average 15.6% THC in 2025, and the strongest 17.4%. Samples were purchased in 50 of 565 Dutch coffeeshops, so this is a sample measurement, not a list of all prices.

Sale in a coffeeshop is formally a crime, but the prosecutor does not prosecute it if the shop follows the rules. One of them is a limit: a maximum of 5 g in one transaction (Dutch government). Coffeeshops also cannot sell to minors.

The Dutch gram is more expensive than the average black market price in Poland from 2023. However, the comparison has limits. The data are separated by several years and use different methods: Trimbos measures prices in coffeeshops, and the Polish number is an average from police data.

How much does a gram of marijuana cost in the Czech Republic?

Usually 200 crowns, i.e., about 35.72 PLN. This comes from Czech police data for 2023, collected in the report on illegal drugs in the Czech Republic. The price was established in 266 cases, with the lowest and highest amounts being 30 and 500 crowns per gram.

The range is large, from 5.36 to 89.30 PLN. The report adds that cannabis is often given as a gift, not sold, so part of the turnover has no price at all.

The same report describes potency. In 2023, 781 dried herb samples were tested: THC content ranged from 0.3% to 32.1%, averaging 10.2%. Buyers on the street do not know whether for 200 crowns they get weak or very strong herb.

From January 1, 2026, Czech law allows adults over 21 to have up to 100 g at home and cultivate three plants, and up to 25 g outside the home (Act No. 270/2025 Sb.). Sale remains a crime, so the Czech price refers only to the illegal market. Czech limits are detailed in the entry about whether marijuana is legal in the Czech Republic.

Why don’t we provide the price per gram for some EU countries?

Because for Malta, Luxembourg, and Spain we did not find an official price per gram, and we do not repeat forum amounts. Luxembourg police provide a fine of 145 euros, about 629.17 PLN, for possession of up to 3 g in a public place, i.e., a penalty, not a price (Luxembourg police, July 2023). We therefore describe the regulations of these three countries without amounts per gram.

In Malta, according to the guidelines of the ARUC office from May 17, 2023, associations cultivate cannabis only for their members and issue them only dried flowers. Possession limits are described in the entry about marijuana in Malta.

In Spain, possession and use of drugs in a public place is a serious administrative offense, punishable by a fine from 601 to 30,000 euros (Article 36 point 16 and Article 39 section 1 of the Public Safety Act). How much does legal marijuana cost in Uruguay and North America?

In a Uruguayan pharmacy, a 5 g package costs from August 1, 2026, from 500 to 630 pesos, depending on the strain. Prices are set by the IRCCA office. Per gram, this is 100-126 pesos, i.e., 9.21-11.60 PLN at the NBP exchange rate of September 9, 2026.

Uruguay sells four strains in pharmacies, and the last price increase took effect on August 1, 2026. It is the only country in this comparison where the official price of legal marijuana is set directly by a state regulator.

In the USA, federal law punishes possession of a controlled substance without a valid prescription: for the first offense, up to one year imprisonment and a fine of at least 1000 dollars (21 U.S.C. § 844). Colorado publishes the median price of unprocessed flowers: from July 1 to September 30, 2026, 574 dollars per pound, i.e., about 4.76 PLN per gram.

Canada has a legal market based on the Cannabis Act, which allows adults to have up to 30 g of dried herb in a public place (Article 8 section 1 letter a). We do not provide the Canadian price per gram because studies measuring it could not be read from the source. Can you still buy marijuana without a prescription in Thailand?

No. Since June 26, 2025, hemp dried herb in Thailand is available only by prescription, for a maximum supply of 30 days, and can be sold only by doctors and authorized medical staff. This is stated in the Thai Embassy announcement from July 2, 2025.

Details are described by the Tilleke & Gibbins law firm. The change was introduced by the Ministry of Public Health announcement of June 26, 2025. The prescription is issued on the official PT 33 form and is filled once, so a new one is needed after each purchase. Sales points, including licensed ones, can no longer sell dried herb to customers without a prescription. For comparison, in Poland one prescription for dried herb can cover up to 90 days of use (Dz.U. 2025 item 1678).

For a person from Poland, this means that without a Thai prescription, they cannot legally buy dried herb there. We did not find an official price list, and amounts from tourist portals may refer to the state before June 2025, so we do not provide them. How does Poland compare to other countries?

The lowest retail price in the comparison is in a Uruguayan pharmacy, 9.21-11.60 PLN per gram. Colorado gives a lower amount, 4.76 PLN, but this is the median price of raw material, not the shelf price. Among averages and cheapest offers in the comparison, the most expensive is the Dutch coffeeshop, 49.16-54.54 PLN, although in the most expensive checked pharmacy a gram of Aurora with 27% THC cost 71.82 PLN.

Amounts are converted at exchange rates from NBP table A no. 178/A/NBP/2026 from September 14, 2026, and pesos from NBP table B no. 036/B/NBP/2026 from September 9, 2026.

These numbers cannot be compared one to one. Some are retail prices, and for Colorado it is the median price of raw material. Data come from 2023-2026, and exchange rates change daily, so the conversion is an approximation for one day.

Each of the twelve cheapest pharmacy offers was lower than the average price from the Polish black market in 2023, i.e., 46 PLN per gram. However, in the most expensive checked pharmacies, both preparations exceeded this amount, and the price of the medicine must include doctor visits. In the Netherlands, a gram costs more than the most expensive of the cheapest pharmacy offers, and sale there is only tolerated.

What determines the price of a gram of marijuana?

Most depends on the place of purchase, less on potency. In Dutch coffeeshops, the strongest strains in 2025 were 1.24 euros per gram more expensive than the most popular, about 11% (Trimbos). In Polish pharmacies, potency did not arrange prices in a simple pattern.

The seller also matters. The same Aurora preparation with 27% THC cost from 15.00 to 71.82 PLN per gram on September 14, 2026, depending on the pharmacy. On the black market, the range can be even greater: Czech police recorded prices from 30 to 500 crowns per gram in 2023.

Quantity also counts. The wholesale price of marijuana from the KCPU table, read as 20 PLN per gram, is more than twice lower than the average street price of 46 PLN.

The report also lists broader factors influencing drug prices: scale and quality of domestic production, availability of goods, and changes in international markets. Where the price is set by an office, as in Uruguay, it is known in advance. On the illegal market, the buyer does not know how much they will pay or what exactly they get.

How much does 5 grams of marijuana cost?

On the black market, 5 g at the average 2023 price is about 230 PLN. In a Polish pharmacy, such a small package is not in the table: the smallest is 10 g, and the cheapest cost 149.00 PLN on September 14, 2026 (Gdzie po lek). Below are the same 5 g in countries for which we have retail price data.

In the Netherlands, 5 g is exactly the limit of one transaction in a coffeeshop. In Uruguay, it is a standard pharmacy package, with a price set by the office. In Poland, the price comparison shows 10 and 15 g packages, so 5 g in a pharmacy is not a separate item.

Dutch 5 g is more expensive than the cheapest Polish 10 g pharmacy package, and the Uruguayan 5 g package costs less than half of that package. However, in the most expensive pharmacy, 10 g of Aurora with 27% THC cost 718.20 PLN, so 5 g from such a package is 359.10 PLN, more than 5 g in the Netherlands. Possession of 5 g of marijuana without a prescription is a crime in Poland regardless of where it was purchased.

How much space does a gram of marijuana take?

A gram of dried herb is little. Uncrushed cannabis plant material has a bulk density of 100-125 g per liter according to the technical note by Fritsch, so a gram occupies about 8-10 ml, roughly two teaspoons. After grinding, the same gram occupies about half as much space, about 4-4.5 ml.

The crushed material has a density of 225-250 g per liter according to the same note, because it packs more tightly. Therefore, a gram of crushed herb looks like less than a gram of uncrushed, although it weighs the same.

Packages from the pharmacy table, 10 and 15 g, correspond at this density to about 80-150 ml of uncrushed herb, and their weight is given by the manufacturer on the package. The density from the note applies to cannabis plant material in general, so the volume for a specific strain may be slightly different.

In a pharmacy, you do not need to estimate the amount by eye, as each package has declared weight, and the price comparison shows it with the price. When converting price per gram, only the declared weight counts: the package price is divided by the number of grams, as in the table above.
