Beach Crasher and Frosted Cherry Cookies: caryophyllene vs myrcene with the same THC range

Two strains from the same trio of producers, with the same THC content range and completely differently documented profiles. The comparison shows what is known about both from research and what is not resolved by any available sources.

  • Profile. Beach Crasher leads with caryophyllene, Frosted Cherry Cookies leads with myrcene.
  • Availability. Both are supplied by S-LAB, Synoptis Pharma, Tilray, so one order can cover both.
  • Origin. The lineage of both is established.
  • What this table does not say. It does not include the declared content as a single number or price. Which strain is suitable for whom is determined by the attending physician, not by the feature comparison.

How does Beach Crasher differ from Frosted Cherry Cookies if both are declared to have the same potency?

By the leading compound and lineage. In the profile of Beach Crasher, caryophyllene takes the lead, while in the profile of Frosted Cherry Cookies, it is myrcene. The lineages of both cultivars do not converge on any common parent. However, the declared active substance content matches to the decimal, so the difference between them cannot be read from the packaging label.

Source consistency divergent consistent

The lineage of the first leads to two breeding lines, Wedding Crasher and Tk Bx1. The second was created from Cherry Cookie and reversed The White. None of these four names returns on the opposite side of the pair, and the pedigree chart of this comparison does not connect the two strains either through a common parent or a common grandparent. The common part of the name would not prove anything: the word frosted is shared by two cultivars, and the other, Frosted Lemon Angel, comes from Lemon Skunk and Kosher Kush, which is a pair that has no point of contact with the lineage of the other side.

The third difference concerns how well documented both profiles are, and this is the most interesting aspect. The composition of Beach Crasher is described by two Polish industry services, and they describe it differently: only one of them lists three compounds. The composition of Frosted Cherry Cookies is provided identically by both databases, which occurs three times in this collection of 85 cultivars. This asymmetry returns later in the text, leading to a conclusion opposite to what intuition suggests.

What connects Beach Crasher and Frosted Cherry Cookies?

The same set of producers and a common part of the profile. Both strains are supplied to Polish pharmacies by three entities: S-LAB, Synoptis Pharma, and Tilray. All five compounds listed for Frosted Cherry Cookies are also on the eight-element list of Beach Crasher, so the smaller profile is entirely contained within the larger one.

Three suppliers is a rare situation in this comparison. Of the 85 described cultivars, 64 have one producer in the registry, eleven have two, and only ten have more than two. Beach Crasher and Frosted Cherry Cookies belong to that ten, and exactly the same trio of entities is associated with eight strains from the entire collection. For the patient, this has a practical effect: the disappearance of one item from the pharmacy does not necessarily mean that the strain has fallen off the market.

They are also connected by what is not present in the data. For neither of them has the sibling field been filled, even though the lineage of both is established and supported by breeder material. An empty list is not a gap here: siblings arise when two cultivars share an identified parent, and the four lines entered in the pedigrees of this pair do not occur with any other strain in the comparison. A broader description of each individually is available on the strain page Beach Crasher and on the strain page Frosted Cherry Cookies.

Why does the consistency of sources for Frosted Cherry Cookies not determine which compound leads?

Because consistency pertains to the list of names, not their order. Both databases list the same set of five compounds for this strain, and therefore the profile has a status of consistency in the project, but neither of them places the same ingredient at the forefront. Consistency ends precisely at the listing.

BudCare provides shares for Frosted Cherry Cookies, where two ingredients are at the top with identical values, so priority cannot be read from them at all; the data comparison tool then leaves the leading compound field empty instead of choosing the first one. MedWeed does not provide shares, only order, and opens it with pinene. Myrcene, which the pharmacy catalog assigns to this strain as dominant, is only in second place at MedWeed. Among the ten cultivars used in fifteen comparisons in this collection, this is the only profile with a status of consistency.

For Beach Crasher, the arrangement is the opposite. There, the sources differ in composition: bisabolol, limonene, and linalool are listed by only one of the two databases, the other does not recognize them for this strain, but both consistently place caryophyllene in the first position. One strain thus has a certain listing and uncertain priority, while the other has an uncertain listing and certain priority. A label stating that one profile is consistent and the other is divergent does not therefore determine which of them is better known.

We do not provide percentage shares for ingredient names at all, and this pair shows why. The four entries for Beach Crasher in the BudCare database sum to 86, 86, 86, and 100 percent, with that hundred arising from four identical quarters, meaning rounding rather than measurement. The three entries for Frosted Cherry Cookies sum to 79 percent each time. Since no one provides the total, the number assigned to a single ingredient does not indicate what part of anything it represents.

Why do we provide THC content for both strains as a range rather than a single number?

Because under one trade name, there are several separate registry entries, each declaring its own potency. For both strains, the collective THC content range is 16.2-24.2%, but it does not come from the brackets of one producer: it consists of declarations from several different entries from three entities.

The manufacturer’s tolerance, which is ten percent of the declared value, cannot account for such a spread. This is evident from the registry names: Cannabis flos S-LAB, Cannabis flos Tilray, and Cannabis flos Synoptis Pharma appear with this pair in versions with different nominal values, and the lower end of the collective range comes from the weaker entry, while the upper end comes from the stronger one. The number entered in the registry name is therefore provided separately and always as a range, never as a ready measurement result of a specific package.

Registry entries appear and disappear, so comparing availability has a short shelf life. In the BudCare database, there are four entries for Beach Crasher, three for Frosted Cherry Cookies, and some of them are described as unavailable. The current state is provided by the list of strains available in pharmacies, and it is this, not this text, that is the place for current data. A completely separate shelf is the category of hemp flower with cannabidiol, sold over the counter: a different plant, a different dispensing method, and no common entry with the pharmacy.

What has been shown in studies on caryophyllene, the leading compound of Beach Crasher?

Two preclinical studies, both on mice. The first described binding to the CB2 receptor and the abolition of the anti-inflammatory effect in animals lacking this receptor, while the second reduced pain response after oral administration. Neither involved humans or inhalation of vapor from the flower, so they do not directly transfer to this strain.

Gertsch and colleagues described in 2008 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), identifier PMID:18574142, that (E)-caryophyllene selectively bound to the CB2 receptor (Ki = 155 nM) and inhibited paw swelling induced by carrageenan in wild-type mice, but not in mice lacking the CB2 receptor (Cnr2-/-), indicating a CB2-dependent mechanism; the study did not include any anxiety tests. Study model: mouse (in vivo) and test tube (receptor binding, human cells).

Six years later, the Klauke team approached the same receptor from the pain side, in European Neuropsychopharmacology, identifier PMID:24210682. Oral caryophyllene reduced the late inflammatory phase of pain in the formalin test in a CB2-dependent manner, with no effect on the early phase; in a neuropathic pain model, it alleviated thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia without developing tolerance with chronic administration. Study model: rodent (mouse).

In neither of the two studies was caryophyllene tested on humans or in inhaled form from the flower; both works concern oral or systemic administration in mice in pain and inflammatory models, not sleep or mood. For the comparative side, this means that the predominance of caryophyllene in the profile of Beach Crasher is a fact about the raw material composition, not a promise of any action in the patient.

What has been shown in studies on myrcene and why do the results not align in one direction?

Three studies on mice, with conclusions diverging in different directions. Intraperitoneal injection prolonged sleep and simultaneously produced a slightly anxiogenic picture, inhalation of vapor acted anxiolytically in females, and a separate study described the abolition of pain response blocked by naloxone. The direction depends on the route of administration and the sex of the animal.

The Vale team studied sleep and anxiety behavior in 2002, and published the results in Phytomedicine under identifier PMID:12587690. Myrcene administered intraperitoneally (100-200 mg/kg) reduced the locomotor activity of mice in the open field test, prolonged sleep time induced by pentobarbital (at 200 mg/kg about 2.6 times), and reduced the number of entries into the open arms of the elevated plus maze, which the authors described as a weak anxiogenic effect, not anxiolytic. Study model: rodent (mouse, intraperitoneal administration).

An earlier work by the Rao team from 1990, published in the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, identifier PMID:1983154, concerned pain. Myrcene (10-40 mg/kg) reduced pain responses in mice in hot plate and writhing tests induced by acetic acid; the effect was abolished by naloxone and yohimbine, indicating involvement of alpha2-adrenergic receptors and release of endogenous opioids. Study model: rodent (mouse).

The latest of the three, Wagner and colleagues, appeared in 2024 in NeuroSci under identifier PMID:39728677. With short puffs of vapor, mimicking inhaled administration in humans, beta-myrcene acted anxiolytically in the elevated plus maze in female mice, and in males only with a single puff. Unlike linalool, myrcene did not produce a synergistic effect with cannabidiol in either sex. Study model: rodent (mouse, vapor puffs).

In humans, it has not been shown that myrcene alone alleviates insomnia at doses typical for inhalation of flower. The direction of the effect in rodents depends on the route of administration and sex: after intraperitoneal injection in 2002, a slightly anxiogenic effect was described, while after inhalation in 2024, an anxiolytic effect was observed in females. These two results do not cancel each other out; they only show that the conclusion depends on conditions that no popular strain database provides.

How long does the effect last and does the strain influence this?

The influence is much smaller than the route of administration. For neither Beach Crasher nor Frosted Cherry Cookies has a pharmacokinetic study been published, so the course is described for the method of intake, not for the cultivar. The following ranges come from the description of absorption physiology and are the same for both of these strains.

The route of administration determines the course more than the strain itself. After vaporization, the substance passes from the lungs to the blood almost immediately, so the first sensations appear after a few minutes, intensity increases for another ten to thirty minutes, and the whole effect wears off within two to four hours. After ingestion, the raw material first passes through the intestine and liver, so the first sensations are awaited from half an hour to two hours, and the episode lasts six, sometimes eight hours. Hence the most common mistake with oral administration: those who think nothing is happening after thirty minutes and take another dose will receive both doses at once. The above ranges describe the route of administration, not this strain; no pharmacokinetic study for a single cultivar has been published.

For the comparison of this pair, the outcome is simple. The difference between the caryophyllene-based profile and the myrcene-based profile does not translate into a different duration of the episode, as it is determined by the method of raw material intake. No time effect comparisons separately for Beach Crasher and separately for Frosted Cherry Cookies are published by either of the two services from which the profiles originate.

What side effects have been reported for each of these two strains?

Separately, nothing has been reported for either, as the reporting system does not operate on strain names. The registry links an event to a medicinal product and batch number, so the question of which of these two is better tolerated finds no answer in the available data.

Reports of side effects are collected for the medicinal product with a batch number, not for the strain name, so the following pertains to hemp flower as a group of raw materials. The most frequently reported are dry mouth, red eyes, and increased heart rate. Less commonly described are dizziness upon rapid standing, daytime drowsiness, and temporary worsening of short-term memory, as well as anxiety that increases with dosage. A separate issue is medications taken concurrently, especially sedatives and those affecting coagulation: their assessment requires knowledge of the entire list of preparations, not just the description of the plant. We do not provide the frequency of these symptoms numerically, as public compilations for hemp flower in Poland do not separate them by individual products.

A different number of registry entries does not resolve anything here either. Beach Crasher has four entries in the pharmacy catalog, Frosted Cherry Cookies has three, and a larger number means broader supply, not higher or lower risk. Comparing the number of reports between the two strains would be comparing sales volumes, not the safety of the raw material.

Frequently asked questions about both strains

Are Beach Crasher and Frosted Cherry Cookies related?

No, not in the sense understood by the pedigree chart. The first comes from Wedding Crasher and Tk Bx1, the second from Cherry Cookie and reversed The White, and none of these four lines returns on the opposite side. Both also have an empty sibling field, even though the lineage of both is established.

Which of these two strains is stronger?

None, if looking at the manufacturer’s declaration. Both have the same THC content range in the registry, 16.2-24.2%, composed of declarations from several separate entries with different nominal strengths. A single package may therefore be weaker or stronger than another package of the same strain.

Why do you not provide percentage shares for aromatic ingredients?

Because the denominator is not known. The four entries for Beach Crasher sum to 86 or 100 percent in the BudCare database, and the three entries for Frosted Cherry Cookies sum to 79 percent each time, with that hundred arising from four identical quarters. A number without a known total does not indicate what part of anything it describes.

What does it mean that the profile of one strain is consistent and the other is divergent?

It only means that for Frosted Cherry Cookies, both services list the same set of names, while for Beach Crasher, the lists diverge. Consistency of the listing does not mean consistency regarding priority, and that is exactly the case with Frosted Cherry Cookies: none of the sources determines which ingredient leads.

Does either of them last longer?

Nothing indicates that. The duration of the episode depends on the route of administration, and no pharmacokinetic study for a single cultivar has been published for either Beach Crasher or Frosted Cherry Cookies. Therefore, comparing the duration of effects between these two strains has no basis in the data.

Can the flower from these strains be purchased without a prescription?

No. Both strains are raw materials dispensed only by prescription from a doctor, in the Rpw category, and the appropriateness of their use is determined by the attending physician. Hemp flower with cannabidiol, available without a prescription, comes from a different plant and is on a completely different shelf.

Hemp flower is a pharmaceutical raw material dispensed by prescription from a doctor in the Rpw category. The material is informational and does not replace consultation with the attending physician. Editorial text: editorial team ubucha.pl.
