What is gunpowder in this jar?

Green tea rolled into balls. Gunpowder is neither a species nor a variety of the plant, but a way of shaping the leaf: each ball is rolled separately, which allows the leaf to retain its aroma longer.

The plant is Camellia sinensis, the same one from which all tea is made. The package weighs twenty grams, the same as rockrose, fennel, and hawthorn.

What you see in the jar

Dark green and olive balls the size of a peppercorn, compact and hard to the touch, some already unfolded into twisted leaves. An unfolded ball is several times larger than a rolled one.
