Purps and Galaxy Walker OG: common registry, different nerolidol and different lineage

How do Purps and Galaxy Walker OG really differ?

Less than the pairing suggests. Both strains are supplied in Poland by the same trio of producers, both fall within the same THC content range, and both have the same eight terpene names in their profiles. They are separated by the position of nerolidol in the table and the fact that the lineage is documented only on one side.

This coincidence is an exception in the set of comparisons. Among fifteen pairs, eleven have the same THC content range on both sides, two have identical lists of terpene names on both sides, and six have profiles that sources recorded divergently on both sides. All three conditions are met simultaneously by exactly one pair out of fifteen, and that is this one.

The terpene difference turns out to be narrower than the label of the pair suggests. The same BudCare table assigns Galaxy Walker OG slightly more caryophyllene than Purps. The lead is reversed not because Purps has more of it, but because on the other side, nerolidol is clearly higher. In Purps, caryophyllene surpasses nerolidol by the smallest step that this table records at all, while in Galaxy Walker OG, the gap between them is several times wider.

The second difference is firmer, as it does not depend on the table of shares. Galaxy Walker OG has two parents in its lineage, Skywalker OG and OG Kush. Purps has none, as the available descriptions do not converge to a single version of its origin, and the field remains empty instead of being filled with a guess. What connects Purps and Galaxy Walker OG?

More than the producer’s name. Three out of four registry entries in which BudCare records each of these strains are exactly the same entry: Cannabis flos S-LAB in two strengths and Cannabis flos Synoptis Pharma. Both are produced by the same trio of producers and both have an empty list of siblings in their lineage.

The registered name does not carry the cultivar name, and this is not a trivial detail. The entry Cannabis flos S-LAB in the weaker strength includes twenty-four cultivars in this database, and in the stronger one, twenty-seven. On the packaging issued by a doctor’s prescription, both strains from the same producer are therefore recorded identically, and they only diverge in the commercial description, which does not go on the prescription.

The lineage graph connects them more weakly than a common pharmacy shelf might suggest. OG Kush, one of the two parents of Galaxy Walker OG, is the parent of four cultivars in this cluster and itself stands with an unknown lineage. Skywalker OG appears as a parent exactly once. Purps does not appear in any list of parents, and names with the purple component in the same set, such as Big Purple Dragon or Purple Octane, come from completely different plants.

The empty sibling list on both sides is a result, not a gap. A parent that is a broad family of style does not create siblings because it is a category, not a single identified strain. With an unknown lineage, Purps has nothing to build such a list from.

Why do two databases provide different compositions for this pair?

Because they do. The profile of both strains has the same status in the data: sources differ in composition. In total, BudCare lists eight names for each, MedWeed lists four for Purps, and for Galaxy Walker OG, it lists four once and one once. None of these lists is a measurement published together with a method of determination.

The divergence has the same direction on both sides. The MedWeed list fits within the BudCare list, never the other way around. Only BudCare lists humulene, linalool, myrcene, and pinene for Purps, while for Galaxy Walker OG, it lists humulene, linalool, and pinene. The entire difference between these two absences comes down to myrcene.

The strangest position is the one that MedWeed hardly describes at all. For one of the two entries of Galaxy Walker OG, the service lists one name, myrcene, which stands in the same profile at BudCare in the second to last position. For the second entry of the same cultivar, the same service opens the list with nerolidol, and describes the genetics once as indica, once as hybrid. The records do not agree even within a single source.

However, there is a point where both services say the same thing, and this point precisely determines the difference of the pair. MedWeed opens the list for Purps with caryophyllene, and the list for the Tilray entry of Galaxy Walker OG with nerolidol, exactly as the BudCare share table orders them. The only feature separating this pair is also the only one on which the sources have no dispute. We separately describe the caryophyllene axis and the nerolidol axis.

Does THC content separate these two strains?

No. Both sides of the pair have the same THC content range in the data, 16.2-24.2%, and the same method of its formation. This range is not the brackets of a single declaration, but a combination of four separate registry entries in which each strain appears, with two different nominal values.

A single entry declares its own nominal value with an allowable deviation of ten percent in both directions, so it gives narrow brackets around a single number. Only the comparison of entries with different nominal values stretches the range to this width. We provide it in full because the patient receives a specific entry at the pharmacy, not an average of all.

The registered name carries this value within it, and that is why we quote it without the numerical component. The number written in the name is the same declared value, burdened with the same deviation, so quoted alone it would return exactly to where the rule of providing a range came from.

However, one numerical difference does exist, but it concerns the offer, not the plant. Tilray leads Purps in the stronger of the two entries, and Galaxy Walker OG in the weaker. S-LAB leads both strains in both strengths at once. This is a difference in the manufacturer’s catalog, not in the plant material.

What has been shown for caryophyllene and nerolidol, and what has not been shown?

Four studies, all on rodents and all about a single compound, not about a strain. Two concern caryophyllene, the leading terpene in Purps, and two concern nerolidol, the leading terpene in Galaxy Walker OG. None studied the dried flower, none included humans, and none concerned sleep.

Gertsch and colleagues described in 2008 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) that (E)-caryophyllene selectively bound to the CB2 receptor (Ki = 155 nM) and inhibited carrageenan-induced paw swelling in wild-type mice, but not in CB2 receptor-deficient mice (Cnr2-/-), indicating a CB2-dependent mechanism; the study did not include any anxiety tests. They worked on mice in vivo and on receptor binding in vitro, on human cells (PMID:18574142).

Klauke and colleagues found in 2014 in European Neuropsychopharmacology that oral caryophyllene reduced the late inflammatory phase of pain in mice in a CB2 receptor-dependent manner, with no effect on the early phase; in a neuropathic pain model, it alleviated thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia without developing tolerance with chronic administration. The model was a rodent, a mouse (PMID:24210682). Neither of the two studies tested caryophyllene on humans or in inhaled form from dried flower; both works concern oral or systemic administration in mice in pain and inflammation models, not sleep or mood.

On the other side of the pair, Fonsêca and colleagues described in 2016 in Fundamental & Clinical Pharmacology that nerolidol (200-400 mg/kg) reduced the number of abdominal contractions induced by acetic acid in mice and lowered levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and IL-1beta; the authors suggested the involvement of the GABAergic system in the analgesic action, as opposed to the opioid mechanism and potassium channels. The model was a rodent, a mouse (PMID:26791997).

Hojjat along with Rasouli and Shakeri published in 2026 in Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria a result in which oral nerolidol (25-100 mg/kg) prolonged latency to seizures induced by pentylenetetrazole (MCS and GTCS phases) in mice and reduced markers of oxidative stress in the brain; the model was a rodent, a mouse with oral administration (PMID:42447923). It has not been shown that nerolidol alleviates anxiety or insomnia in humans; both available works concern rodents and describe analgesic, anticonvulsant, and antioxidant effects, not sleep or mood.

What does the seller’s material say about these strains, and what does the study not confirm?

Mood and aroma labels. BudCare adds a set of scent descriptors and one word about possible effects to each entry. For all four entries of Galaxy Walker OG, it is relaxing, for three entries of Purps it is balanced, and for the fourth, it adds relaxing. These are catalog descriptions, not measurement results.

The scent sets diverge more consistently than the share table. For Galaxy Walker OG, they return earthy, minty, and piney descriptors, and this is the same for all four entries. For Purps, earthy and spicy descriptors repeat, and in two entries, floral, fruity, or sour descriptors are added. If anything distinguishes these two strains upon opening the package, it is rather this layer of description than the order of numbers in the database.

For Purps, the data additionally carry a sensory description: purple buds, grape-berry aroma, and deeply sedating relaxation. This sentence comes from sales materials, not from a scientific work, and should be read as such. For Galaxy Walker OG, there is no such description in the data at all, which does not mean that the strain acts more gently, only that no one collected that description.

Availability changes faster than descriptions. At the time of data collection, two out of four entries of Purps and one out of four entries of Galaxy Walker OG were marked as available, and with the next import, this state may be different, as permits and deliveries have their own calendar. The current list is maintained by the list of currently available strains. At the store category for dried flower, there is another shelf, hemp flower with cannabidiol issued without a prescription, not the pharmaceutical material described in this text.

How long does the effect last and what does it depend on?

On the route of administration, not on the strain name. Neither for Purps nor for Galaxy Walker OG has a separate pharmacokinetic study been published, so every minute or hour number describes here the method of taking the material, not a specific cultivar. The following description is common for the entire group of hemp flower.

The route of administration determines the course more than the strain itself. After vaporization, the substance passes from the lungs to the blood almost immediately, so the first sensations appear after a few minutes, the intensity increases for another ten to thirty minutes, and the whole effect wears off within two to four hours. After ingestion, the material first passes through the intestine and liver, so the first sensations are waited for from half an hour to two, and the episode lasts six, sometimes eight hours. Hence the most common mistake with oral administration: those who think after thirty minutes that nothing is happening and take another dose will receive both doses at once. The above ranges describe the route of administration, not this strain; no pharmacokinetic study for a single cultivar has been published.

The division into these two strains has no significance at this point, as both reach the patient in the same form and in the same registry entries. The method of administration is determined by the attending physician, not by the description of the terpene profile or the trade name on the packaging.

What adverse effects have been reported for each of these two strains?

None separately for either of them, and the reason is here firmer than usual. The same registry entry includes dozens of cultivars in the database, so reports submitted after the dried flower of one producer cannot be attributed to either Purps or Galaxy Walker OG. Below is a description concerning the entire group of material.

Reports of adverse effects are collected for a medicinal product with a batch number, not for a strain name, so the following concerns hemp flower as a group of materials. The most frequently reported are dry mouth, red eyes, and increased heart rate. Less frequently described are dizziness upon rapid standing, daytime drowsiness, and transient worsening of short-term memory, as well as anxiety increasing with the dose. A separate issue is medications taken concurrently, especially sedatives and those affecting coagulation: their assessment requires knowledge of the entire list of preparations, not the description of the plant. We do not provide the frequency of these symptoms numerically, as public compilations for hemp flower in Poland do not separate them by individual products.

A different number of reports for the two names would not be evidence of a difference in safety, but a reflection of how many packages of each strain reached pharmacies. With a cultivar marked as unavailable in three out of four entries, such a number speaks of sales volume, not of the properties of the material.
