Gelato 33 (Cannabis flos Cantourage): lineage from Sunset Sherbet and a profile from a single source

A hybrid of Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint GSC, available in Polish pharmacies from one producer. The profile composition is described by only one database, and the studies that can be cited here honestly concern limonene administered to animals.

Where does Gelato 33 come from and who developed it?

From the cookies lineage: the parents of Gelato 33 are Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint GSC, and the authorship of the cross is attributed to the California group Cookie Fam Genetics. Both databases describing this strain in the Polish market consistently refer to it as a hybrid, so there is no discrepancy regarding the type of plant between sources.

The number in the strain name is a breeder's selection label and does not describe the content of any ingredient. Separating these two things makes sense right away, because in the registration name of the raw material there is also a number, but next to the THC abbreviation, which means something completely different.

Two Polish databases record this strain differently: one as Gelato 33, the other as Gelato #33. It is the same raw material from the same producer, and the difference comes down to the hash mark before the number. From the name alone, it is not possible to tell that it refers to one thing, and when browsing several lists at once, this can be confusing.

We have the lineage here from two independent genetic descriptions, which is not the norm in this comparison. Sixty cultivars out of eighty-five have established origins, while for the remaining ones the trail goes cold: either the breeder of the parents never provided it, or the descriptions contradict each other. Then there is the temptation to guess based on the name, and the common element proves nothing in either direction.

Which producer supplies Gelato 33 to Polish pharmacies?

One. The strain comes from Cantourage and in the compiled list corresponds exactly to one catalog number, so there are no two versions of the same strain to compare. The registration name is Cannabis flos Cantourage, and the numerical part, which usually appears further in it, is provided separately below as a range.

What does the list provide Value for this product
Producer Cantourage
Registered name Cannabis flos Cantourage
Form of raw material dried flower, inflorescence
Declared THC content 23.4-28.6% (range resulting from the producer's tolerance)
CBD content stated as not exceeding one percent
Genetics according to both databases hybrid
Number of items in the pharmacy list one

One producer means one supply chain. When a batch runs out or the marketing authorization expires, there is no substitute under the same name, and the decision about another raw material returns to the attending physician. Therefore, what is actually available in the wholesaler for a given month is tracked separately: in the overview of strains that can be purchased today at the pharmacy.

The content of the active substance is recorded as a range because the producer's declaration is not a measurement of the batch that ended up on the shelf. The deviation from the declared value reaches one-tenth in both directions, so the number entered in the registration name is the midpoint of the range, not a reading from an analysis. Stated alone promises accuracy, to which no one here has committed.

Pharmaceutical raw material should not be confused with dried flower sold over the counter, as this is a separate product category and a different dispensing method. A table with one row looks sparse, and this is indeed the truth about this strain in Poland: there is no second producer alongside which the registration record or declared potency could be compared.

What does Gelato 33 smell like and what does its profile say?

Sweet and fruity, with a hint of lavender and an earthy background. This is how the catalog describes it, from which the only available description of this strain's composition comes. It's a sensory relationship, not a measurement: the same dried flower described by two people receives two different sets of adjectives, and neither is incorrect.

Katalog wymienia w profilu tej odmiany farnezen, limonene, linalool i myrcene. However, only one source describes it this way: the second of the collected databases notes the same position from the same producer, but does not provide the order of ingredients at all, so there is nothing to compare.

This one database distributes shares evenly across all four positions, which means that none of them is indicated as leading. The label for the limonene strain comes from a pharmacy list, not from this breakdown, and is a different type of data than the result of chromatographic separation.

We do not transcribe the shares here in numbers, and this is not an excessive caution. The summed shares that Polish compilations provide for the same positions sometimes do not even reach half, and sometimes hit four-fifths, so the denominator can be different each time and remains unknown. A number without a denominator in a text about prescription raw material looks like a measurement, but it is not.

The aroma can be different at the beginning and end of the package. Volatile components evaporate faster than cannabinoids, so by the end of the supply, it smells weaker than on the day it was opened. The description from the catalog pertains to fresh material, and this caveat is usually not made.

How long does it take for Gelato 33 to take effect and how long does it last?

This is determined by the method of intake, not the label on the package. No one has measured the duration for Gelato 33 itself, so the only honest information that can be provided here is the common framework for inhaled vapor and for ingested raw material, common to all cultivars without exception.

The route of administration determines the course more than the variety itself. After vaporization, the substance passes from the lungs to the blood almost immediately, so the first sensations appear after a few minutes, the intensity increases for another ten to thirty minutes, and the whole effect lasts for two to four hours. After ingestion, the raw material first passes through the intestine and liver, so the first sensations are awaited from half an hour to two hours, and the episode can last six, sometimes eight hours. Hence the most common mistake with oral administration: anyone who thinks nothing is happening after thirty minutes and takes another dose will receive both doses at once. The above ranges describe the route of administration, not this variety; pharmacokinetic studies for a single cultivar have not been published.

The difference between strains lies in the dose, not the clock. The declared THC range for this position, 23.4-28.6%, indicates how much raw material corresponds to the same amount of active substance, not when the first sensation will appear. The method of intake and the size of the dose are determined by the attending physician, as the dried flower is dispensed by prescription.

What has been shown in studies, and what has not been shown for this strain?

Nothing has been shown about Gelato 33 itself. The studies that can be cited here honestly pertain to a single component of the profile, limonene, administered to animals in isolation and in doses calculated per body weight. This is a different subject than the dried flower inhaled by humans, and this difference cannot be bridged.

The older of the two studies was published in Phytomedicine (do Vale et al., 2002, PMID:12587690). Limonene administered intraperitoneally to mice showed muscle relaxant effects (rota-rod test) from a dose of 50 mg/kg and prolonged sleep induced by pentobarbital at a dose of 200 mg/kg (about 2.6 times); in the elevated plus maze test, already at a dose of 5 mg/kg, it reduced the number of entries into the open arms, which the authors described as an anxiogenic effect, not anxiolytic.

The newer study comes from Behavioural Pharmacology (Fakhri et al., 2025, PMID:40622197). Limonene reduced paw swelling induced by carrageenan in rats and pain responses in the formalin test in mice; the effect was associated with the l-arginine/nitric oxide/cGMP/KATP channel pathway and the involvement of opioid and benzodiazepine receptors.

No anxiolytic effect of limonene has been demonstrated in humans. It has also not been shown that isolated limonene acts anxiolytically in animals; the only available data from the elevated plus maze test showed an opposite effect in mice, reducing the number of entries into the open arms even at a low dose.

The rest of what circulates about this strain has a different status. The catalog attributes it a balanced effect, but this is a commercial description, not a research result, and there is no measurement behind it made public. Patient reports are collected without a control group and without blinding, so they speak about expectations as much as about the raw material.

What side effects have been reported for this strain?

None that could be attributed to this specific name. In Polish compilations, there is no layer that would allow separating reports by cultivar, and Gelato 33 stands in the list as a single position from one producer, so even a single report would disappear in the aggregate pool.

Reports of adverse effects are collected for medicinal products with a batch number, not for the strain name, so the following pertains to hemp dried flower as a group of raw materials. The most frequently reported symptoms are dry mouth, red eyes, and increased heart rate. Dizziness upon rapid standing, daytime drowsiness, and temporary worsening of short-term memory are less frequently described, as well as anxiety that increases with dosage. A separate issue is medications taken concurrently, especially sedatives and those affecting coagulation: their assessment requires knowledge of the entire list of preparations, not just the description of the plant. We do not provide the frequency of these symptoms numerically, as public compilations for hemp dried flower in Poland do not separate them by individual products.

One thing ties this list specifically to this position. The declared THC range here is 23.4-28.6%, and among the 66 strains in this compilation for which the source provides a range, only nine reach the upper limit. The aforementioned anxiety increases with dosage, so with stronger raw material, the same amount of material carries more active substance. The size of the dose is determined by the attending physician and is information about the raw material, not a guideline for dosing.

Is it possible to indicate a single vaporization temperature for this strain?

No. The four components listed in its profile boil at different temperatures, and the spread reaches several dozen degrees; for one of them, the public database does not provide a boiling point at all. Therefore, a single number would have to omit one of them, and even then it would not describe what happens in the chamber.

The public PubChem database provides the boiling point along with the pressure for three of these four compounds: myrcene boils at around 167 degrees Celsius, limonene at 178, and linalool at 196, all under atmospheric pressure. There is no boiling point listed for farnezen in this database, so it cannot be compared with the others.

However, the setting on the vaporizer is not the temperature of the dried flower, and this is a separate topic that we address in the text about the difference between the setting and the material. The heating element or airflow has its own temperature, while the material in the chamber has a lower and uneven temperature, as it is cooled by the airflow when inhaled. This difference exists and has not been publicly measured.

The boiling point itself is often read as the threshold for the onset of evaporation, but it is not: volatile components evaporate much lower, just more slowly. For this reason, we do not provide any range as recommended here. The method of consuming the raw material issued from the doctor's prescription is determined by the attending physician, and what is separately known about limonene itself is described in the dedicated mu wpisie.

Which strains from Polish pharmacies are related to it?

Jedna: Sherbert Scotti. Both are derived from Sunset Sherbet, but the other parent of Gelato 33 is Thin Mint GSC, while Sherbert Scotti has Biscotti on the other side. This relationship is counted through one common parent, not through a similarly sounding name or a common element in the notation.

The pedigree chart in this comparison includes only cultivars present in Polish pharmacies, so siblings outside this collection do not appear at all. A short list does not mean that the strain is genealogically isolated; it simply means that the rest of the family does not have a catalog number here.

Sherbert Scotti is provided by a different producer, and less is known about it: none of the two collected sources describe its terpene profile, so next to Gelato 33 stands an empty column in the table. Two related entries in the same list may therefore have completely different levels of documentation, and the distance in the pedigree does not determine anything about this.

Empty columns for siblings with other strains from this comparison can be a correct result, not a gap to be filled. A parent being a landrace or a broad family style does not define siblings, as this is a category, not a single plant with a defined identity. Here, both parents are named cultivars, so the connection can be established without guessing.

Frequently asked questions about Gelato 33

Is Gelato 33 available without a prescription?

No. Dried flower is a pharmaceutical raw material dispensed by a doctor's prescription in the Rpw category, and Gelato 33 is listed as a pharmacy item from one producer.

Who developed Gelato 33?

The cross of Sunset Sherbet with Thin Mint GSC is attributed to the California group Cookie Fam Genetics, and both collected databases consistently describe this strain as a hybrid.

How much THC does Gelato 33 have?

The source provides a declared value, which, taking into account the producer's tolerance, we record as a range of 23.4-28.6%; a single number on the label would promise accuracy that no one has committed to.

Does Gelato 33 have anxiolytic effects?

This has not been demonstrated. Available studies concern limonene administered to animals in isolation, and the only anxiety test in this set yielded an unexpected result in mice.

How do we know what terpenes Gelato 33 has?

From one catalog that lists farnezen, limonene, linalool, and myrcene in its profile; the second collected database notes the same entry but does not provide the composition.

Why does the availability of this strain change over time?

Because it is backed by one producer and one catalog number: a supply break or expiration of the license removes it from the list without a replacement under the same name.
