Cantourage: a platform that does not cultivate its own hemp
Under one registration name in the Polish pharmacy is flower from several different cultivations in Canada. We explain what this structure changes in reading the label and what has not been established about this raw material.
Who is Cantourage and where does its raw material come from?
Cantourage is a Berlin-based company founded in 2019 that does not cultivate anything itself. It purchases flowers from licensed growers in several countries, processes them in Germany, and introduces them under its own registered name to European markets. In Polish pharmacies, it is therefore responsible for the approval of products for sale, not for their cultivation.
The company calls its own model Fast Track Access and describes it as a shortened path to the European market for growers from any corner of the world: the grower remains with their cultivation, while the regulatory side is handled by Berlin. On the company website, there is a declaration of cooperation with over 65 licensed hemp producers and a statement that since 2019, the company has been showcasing a new strain in Germany every month. The shares were listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange at the end of 2022.
The company entered the Polish market in December 2022. In its own announcement from the first day of that month, it referred to Poland as the third European market after Germany and the United Kingdom, with the first product introduced being a flower grown in Uganda, distributed by the company Cannabis House. The five products currently available in pharmacies under this name come from a completely different source.
The plants grow with partners, not in Berlin or Bavaria. Gelato 33 and Orange Cake are grown at the LOT420 cultivation located southeast of Montreal, Modified Gas and Pavé S1 come from the Canadian company Green Karat, and Mac 1 is from the artisanal cultivation Miracle Valley in British Columbia. Therefore, the entire set present in our inventory has grown in Canada, although none of these names appear on the pharmacy label.
Who is responsible for these products in Polish pharmacies?
Responsibility for approval lies with Cantourage GmbH from Germany, listed in drug databases as the responsible entity, while distribution to Polish wholesalers is handled by PharmaVitae Sp. z o.o. sp. k. The product itself is in the form of a pharmaceutical raw material for pharmacy recipes, in a ten-gram package, dispensed only with a doctor's prescription.
The separation of these roles can be confusing when reading store descriptions, as some refer to Cantourage as a distributor, while others call it a producer. Neither of these terms accurately reflects what is seen in pharmacy documents: the German company certifies the registered product, the Polish company introduces it to the market locally, and the plant was grown by a third party, thousands of kilometers away.
The registered name is Cannabis flos Cantourage and carries a numerical component indicating the declared content. We provide it here without this component intentionally. The number on the label is a declared value, subject to an allowable deviation in both directions, and not the result of a measurement of the dose that the patient receives at the counter. The strain name does not appear on the packaging at all: the patient recognizes the product by the number, the pharmacist by the registered name, and the commercial name of the cultivar exists solely in the descriptions of portals and stores.
Pharmacy databases indicate storage for these products in the range of 2 to 25 degrees Celsius and one package weighing ten grams. For some of them, the KtoMaLek service notes that the product is difficult to obtain in pharmacies and displays a message about the lack of a leaflet. This last point is not an oversight by the service's editorial team, but a characteristic of the product itself.
Which Cantourage strains are available in Polish pharmacies?
Five. In the inventory of this cluster, Cantourage is responsible for five cultivars and five pharmacy products out of a total of one hundred and forty-one collected: Gelato 33, Mac 1, Modified Gas, Orange Cake, and Pavé S1. Four of them have limonene as the dominant terpene in pharmacy data, while the fifth has caryophyllene.
| Strain | Cultivation | Country | Dominant terpene in pharmacy data | Available in pharmacies since |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mac 1 | Miracle Valley | Canada | limonene | December 2024 |
| Gelato 33 | LOT420 | Canada | limonene | October 2025 |
| Pavé S1 | Green Karat | Canada | caryophyllene | April 2026 |
| Modified Gas | Green Karat | Canada | limonene | June 2026 |
| Orange Cake | LOT420 | Canada | limonene | June 2026 |
The set grew gradually and was not created in one go. Mac 1 appeared in pharmacies in December 2024, Gelato 33 on October 29, 2025, Pavé S1 in April 2026, and the last two items entered together at the beginning of June 2026. Therefore, there is a year and a half between the first and the last.
Four entries from this five are described in pharmacy data with limonene, which we discuss separately in the text about this compound, while Pavé S1 stands out kariofilenem. Such uniformity is an observation from our inventory, not a company declaration, and does not mean that the flower smells the same.
One of these names does not belong exclusively to Cantourage in Polish pharmacies. Mac 1 also provides Four 20 Pharma, as a separate registration item with its own declaration. The remaining four cultivars are only associated in our inventory with this manufacturer, so a patient whose doctor prescribed them does not choose between versions from different entities.
What is not included in this text and will not be: stock levels and numbers that change weekly. We maintain an up-to-date list of items available in pharmacies in the compilation of available strains. Store category drought is a separate branch of the assortment that has nothing to do with pharmaceutical raw material.
Why is Mac 1 from Cantourage not the same item as Mac 1 from someone else?
Because the strain name is not a registration name. Mac 1 reaches Polish pharmacies as two independent items, one branded by Cantourage, the other by Four 20 Pharma, each with its own declaration and documentation. The published terpene profiles for them also differ, even though the cultivar name sounds identical.
The database budcare.pl provides four compounds for the Cantourage item, each receiving the same share value, and the total comes out to exactly one hundred. For the item from the second entity, the same database lists five compounds with varied values, summing up to seventy-three. One name, two different descriptions, one source.
A flat set of identical values is not a measurement, but a substitute record. If four compounds truly constituted the same amount, they would fill the entire mass of the flower, leaving no room for the plant. The conclusion for reading descriptions is simple: the terpene profile is not part of the registration documentation, does not appear on the packaging, and does not have to be consistent between batches.
For the patient, this means that two entries with the same strain name are two separate products, not two packages of the same one. We elaborate on this in the text about samej odmianie, along with the pedigree and the state of evidence for the terpene indicated there.
How does the raw material from Cantourage differ from others?
By two things, both declared by the company itself. The first is processing in a German factory with EU-GMP certification, the second is the abandonment of ionizing radiation in favor of its own method of reducing the number of microorganisms. Neither is confirmed by the document available to the patient in the pharmacy, so we read them as a manufacturer’s statement.
On the company’s product page, there is a statement that significant stages of production take place in a certified EU-GMP factory in Germany, and if necessary, the company reduces the natural microbiological load of the flower below the permissible limits for medicinal products, using a method developed in-house. A separate sentence states directly that the company does not use ionizing radiation, which is meant to protect the terpenes and active substances of the plant.
This distinction is important because irradiation is often a routine solution in this industry and affects the scent of the flower. However, the pharmacy label does not mention a word about how a given batch was disinfected, so comparing two items in this regard relies solely on the manufacturers' materials. The EU-GMP certificate remains a verifiable fact, as it is issued by the pharmaceutical supervision authority, not the company itself.
The rest of what the company writes about itself is already promotional material. In the statement from June 16, 2021, announcing the Fast Track Access program, there is a promise of the highest European quality standards, but not a single word about where the processing takes place, what the series testing looks like, or what exactly the laboratory measures. A promise without these three answers is just a slogan, not documentation.
What is known, and what is not known about the Cantourage raw material?
It is known who is responsible for the position, where the flower was grown, and what the declared content is. It is not known what the actual terpene composition of the individual batches is: two Polish databases describing the same five provide different data, and where shares are mentioned at all, they do not form a coherent whole.
We calculated this based on our own data. For five positions from this manufacturer, the total shares published by budcare.pl are 97, 100, 100, 118, and 125. Three of them are sets in which each listed ingredient was assigned the same value. A total exceeding one hundred cannot describe a part of a certain whole, and a set of equal values says nothing beyond the order of entry into the database.
The second database, medweed.pl, describes the same five positions and provides the order of ingredients for only one of them. For Pavé S1, the two databases diverge: budcare.pl lists linalool, which the second source does not have in its calculation. For the other four, medweed.pl does not provide the composition at all, so a reader comparing both services gets either a description or emptiness.
The certificate of analysis for the batch is a separate matter. The company declares quality controls and laboratory tests at several points in the process, but does not publish results for a specific batch in a place that a patient or pharmacist can access before dispensing the medication. We also did not find a single scientific publication describing the raw material from this particular manufacturer. The rest circulates in commercial descriptions: aromas, expected sensations, comparisons to non-pharmaceutical versions. This is sales material, not measurement.
Is the availability of Cantourage strains in pharmacies stable?
No. The presence of a position in the register does not mean that the product is in stock, and monitoring services mark some positions from this manufacturer as hard to obtain. The set has grown sporadically over the last year and a half and can just as sporadically shrink when the batch runs out.
Between the entry in the register and the shelf, there is still the approval for importing the product. The portal budcare.pl described this stage as overloaded, which means that a position may be formally approved long before anyone sees it at the pharmacy window. The approval for the raw material has a specified validity period and can be revoked, so the register describes the legal state, not the contents of the warehouse.
This is evident in the company's own set. The first position entered in December 2024, the last two in June 2026, and the gaps between subsequent entries were several months. Services comparing pharmacies maintain separate pages for these positions for individual cities, which in itself says quite a bit: a product present in one pharmacy may be absent in another, on the same street.
The practical conclusion is that a prescription issued for a specific registered position may be harder to fulfill than a prescription described more generally. Whether it can be substituted is determined by the attending physician together with the pharmacist, not the description of the strain on the internet or the announcement of new products.
What adverse effects have been reported after using Cantourage raw material?
None separately. There is no public compilation of reports assigned to this manufacturer's positions, as safety oversight is conducted for the medicinal product with a batch number, not for the company name or strain name. Everything publicly available pertains to dried flower as a whole group of raw materials.
The lists of symptoms that appear with Cantourage positions on pharmacy services are the same lists as those for positions from other entities. They include dry mouth, dizziness, excessive drowsiness, tachycardia, and memory and concentration disturbances, but without a single number indicating how often any of these symptoms occurred. This is a description relating to dried flower in general, not a result of observations of this specific raw material, so it says nothing about the flower from this particular company.
The lack of a leaflet for these positions should not be interpreted as negligence. Raw material intended for pharmaceutical formulation does not have the characteristics of a medicinal product in the form that a finished medication receives in packaging, so services have nothing to display. Information about adverse effects then reaches the patient orally, from the prescribing physician and from the pharmacist upon dispensing.
We also did not find an observational report describing the safety of this company's raw material on its own group of patients. The company mentions telemedicine services on its website, but does not publish safety data in a form that could be verified externally. As long as this remains the case, attributing or removing any symptom to this manufacturer will be guesswork.
Frequently asked questions about Cantourage raw material
Does Cantourage grow its own hemp?
No. The company buys flowers from licensed growers from several countries and processes them in Germany, and under its registered name, the material in Polish pharmacies comes from several different cultivations.
How many Cantourage strains are in Polish pharmacies?
There are five in the inventory of this cluster: Gelato 33, Mac 1, Modified Gas, Orange Cake, and Pavé S1. The set grew from December 2024 to June 2026 and can change in either direction.
Who distributes Cantourage products in Poland?
The responsible entity is Cantourage GmbH from Germany, and the distributor in the Polish market is PharmaVitae Sp. z o.o. sp. k. The company's first entry into our market in 2022 was handled by another entity.
Does Cantourage irradiate the dried flower?
The company declares on its website that it does not use ionizing radiation and reduces microbiological load in its own way. This is a manufacturer’s statement, which the pharmacy label neither confirms nor rejects.
Why is there no strain name on the packaging?
Because the registered name is Cannabis flos Cantourage along with a numerical component, and the strain name functions only in commercial descriptions. The same strain name may belong to two separate positions from different entities.
Are the published terpene profiles of Cantourage strains measurements?
They should not be read that way. The total shares given for five positions from this manufacturer are 97, 100, 100, 118, and 125, and in three cases, each listed ingredient received the same value.
Dried flower is a pharmaceutical raw material dispensed by prescription in the Rpw category. The material is informational in nature, describes the state of evidence, and does not replace medical advice or pharmacist recommendations.
