The second study was published in 2014 in European Neuropsychopharmacology (PMID:24210682) and examined the same compound in rodents. Oral caryophyllene reduced the late inflammatory phase of pain in the formalin test in a CB2 receptor-dependent manner, with no effect on the early phase; in a neuropathic pain model, it alleviated thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia without developing tolerance with chronic administration.
